Hi
I've been a long time off as my vr6 conversion was stuck due to the guy that does the electrical system of the car not working properly, the guy just worked when he wanted to and that caused a huge delay on the whole project.
I just read the whole thread again and the updates (i didn't came here since march) and it's cool but your approach is really different from mine.
I'm not painting all parts, and putting all like new, i would like it a lot but if i do that i will take a lot longer, i prefer to have it built, at least most of it then if i want to enhance some part i'll do it on an after stage. But remember my car will probably be for sale soon after i finish the project.. it's really another approach.
As i told you most of the parts i needed to fit the engine and make it work came from G60 Corrados, i think it's stiff enough for the job as i'm not planning to go FI.
My engine is in place since december, on the stock mounts, looks ok, but a bit close to the grill, had to cut a bit of the front structure (that bar where the hood locks) this way the engine is leaving a huge gap behind, well will narrow a bit when fitting the headers, but anyways i would like to have it much more close to the firewall then this.
It's already working, the car runs, just tested to see as it does not have the headers or any exaust part connected.
Need to finish some electrical bits as the mfa button is not working, dials do not work, bought an electrical rad fan as the stock one would not fit, so i brought one from a 16v calibra that fits well and i hope it will be powerfull enough. The rad is not the vr6 one, is the one that came in the 16v
ibiza but i think it is a bit larger as the part number says it's from a toledo.
While waiting for the electrics guy to finally finish my car's wiring i bought some goodies like the cupra center console with 2 white dials, bought another vr6 instrument cluster white white dials and swapped with mine, bought some cheap 15" alloys as i could not test the breaks in the stock 14"s as it would not fit, bought a very nice full suspension kit (bilstein pro kit) with very low milleage.
Already have the wheels fitted (they need to be painted), front brakes, vr6 fuse box and almost all wiring, center console, vr6 cluster with white dials, front suspension.. well it's getting somewhere @last !
I will post some pics.. but it's this way i'm doing things, some of them will have to be tested on the road and probably re-done, that's normal
