Locking remote control

Hi everyone, havnt posted on here for a long time. Im just wondering if I could purchase a remote central locking kit for my car. Its a 1.6 s mk1 leon. The car never came with the remote as it got lost. Is there a kit i could get and install my self which would allow me to use the current alarm and central locking loom. (basically just the remote control itself). On previous cars ive paid £200 plus for toad alarms, but these were cars with no current alarms.

i got a flip key off ebay for about £16 plus postage. get a blade cut and swap over your imo chip and away you go. only takes about 30seconds to program it to the remots centeral locking.

Ive read about this somewhere although im not convinced id trust my self swaping over the chip. MOst key cutting places tend to say they cant cut it just because it has a chip in it. Ive seen some on ebay who cut your key for you from a photograph but surely this cannot be accurate.

Ill look into flip keys, but has anybody got the link for programing it to your car once the chip has been swaped over? Also is there a guide to swaping the chip over?

There are two security systems involved here, the remote central locking/alarm (which is activated from the removable fob part of the non-flip key) and the immobiliser transponder, a small chip or glass pill, glued into the key part of the non-flip key) (I don't know if the flip keys come apart in the same way).

Synchronising the remote central locking is relatively straightforward using the processes published here and elsewhere.

Coding the immobiliser to accept a new transponder is more difficult. Can sometimes be done with VAG-com, I believe, if you have the SKC (Security Key Code, I think), a separate code number on a tag that should have been given to you with the car. The SKC was discontinued in later cars, and recoding can only be carried out for these at a dealer with their diagnostic equipment.

If all you want is the remote functionality, you could buy an standard key fob and code it to the alarm. Still use your existing key in the ignition and the separate remote for the alarm/locking.

If you only have one key, then the risk involved in swapping the immobiliser transponder is higher. I'd seriously consider getting a complete key from the dealer, or at least getting them to add the new transponder to the immobiliser.

Oh, and the ebay places that will recut a key? They have a record of your key and your home address. I don't like the risks involved in that either.

Thanks for the advice, i think i misunderstood the flip key. I emailed a seller and he said mk1 leons cant have these as the only come with an aditional fob. I belive I just need a fob coaded to the alarm now. (still using my exsisting key for the ingnition).

So how hard is it to code a fob (no key just the fob) to the alarm. Just so I can be lazy and open the car without using the locks?

I had a problem a couple of weeks ago where the lock actually broke so the key wouldnt lock the car. If i had a fob I wouldnt need to worry about the issue of locking the door. Makes like easier when you have bags etc too.

get a 2button flip key off ebay. some guys even have 3 button ones working aswell. any vw or skoda key will work. try get one with a blank blade and new chip. these can also be bought sepearetly. take it to your local locksmith who can cut the blade program the chip and set up the remote locking. that is what i done last week and i now have a woking remote flip key. dont bother going near a stealers at all. also it tells you how to program the key in the owners manual but you will need the blade on the remote fob cut to match your car or have two keys!!!
