100K should be fine as long as it has been properly serviced and cared for - the 1.8T lumps are bomb proof if cared for properly. As for the remap you will get about an extra 35 bhp for under £300.

Common faults are dodgy coil packs, maf failiure and occasionally clutch master cylinders can give up the ghost - but don't let that put you off, I've had mine 2 years now and apart from the master cylinder and just recently a lambda sensor it has never missed a beat, and is by far the best car I have ever owned. I have spent less on this car in terms of faults than any other car (I just wish I could say the same about petrol costs...!).

Also, I will suggest this before anyone else does - the search button is your friend!! There have been many others asking the same questions as you and the answers are on here somewhere. This forum is a goldmine of information.

Buy one - if you get a good example you won't regret it. ;)

i bought mine 2 years ago (2002 model) at 111k and it has now done 127k. as aobve, bullet proof engines if they are cared for. i had it remapped and it is awesome value for money. no real mechanical problems, just a few odds and ends that needed sorted. get a good one and you wont regret it.
