Hi

THIS IS NOW RESOLVED (Read the thred to find out how to fit them)

I wonder if anyone can help.

I've just moved up from an ibiza fr to a new 58 plate leon FR. I bought some chrome/polished aluminium dash dial surrounds & vent surrounds from ebay here from user the-tuning-shop. The vent surrounds are fine, but a tight fit, the dash surrounds, I can't possibly see how they'd fit.

Below is a pic of the surround held against my dash. You can see the problem.

They are completely flat, ie, if they were on a table they'd lie flat, but the dashboard has a slight curve on it. If I put the surround up to the dash, it looks a mile out and would have to be quite considerably bent to fit. Has anyone bought these before, and if so, how on earth did you get them on?

The pic in the auction is NOT the same as my car, although the description says they are suitable. I've since mailed the guy and queried and he's sent another pic which appears to have the same dash as mine, but with the surrounds fitted.

This is the pic he sent, apologies if it belongs to one of you guys (I beleive it might do)

or just leave them ;)

look a bit naff IMO, although at one point I did try and get hold of some from Seat so I can't really talk. . . but I'd say alu door trim is all you need to top off the look of the interior, i think when you start addin chrome it gets a bit chavvy to be honest.

Hello mate,
I bought the ones from the tuning shop for my Leon Cupra and had exactly the same issue as you have, - I had one hell of a job to get them on, which involved bending them slightly oval in shape and slightly concave in profile plus use of a hammer to whack them into place !!! :scary:

I succeeded after an hour and a quarter, (without any damage) but am not sure I would recommend it to anyone else...my honest advice would be send them back and get a refund, and buy the SEAT ones.

Hi Jedimaster65. Thats exactly what I thought it would involve. The guy I/we bought them off seemed convinced they are a dead easy fit. I didn't think so. I'll email him for a refund. Thanks for replying, I'm real glad you did! :D I now know its not just me.

To update my own thread, in case anyone else asks about these in the future.

I emailed directly 2 other people who purchased the same rings as me using the sellers feedback list. One person hadn't fitted them yet. The other, like myself couldn't fit them and returned them as they were nowhere near the right shape.

I've contacted the seller and he's stated nobody else has complained, but its ok to return them? Thats sounds strange considering the other buyer also returned his.

The airvent surrounds I also received do fit ok, but are a tight fit. They look good and are worth a look.

Thanks for the help :D

They're here. Bit pricey for what they are. They weren't so bad when included with the dashboard rings. Look carefully at the pic on the auction, they only cover the front edge - but they look much better in real life.

I've been e-mailing the same seller because he was positive they were a perfect fit. Glad to see it's not just me who can't fit a couple of bits of chrome in the dials

In front of a PC....
You have prob done this already but have you tried turning them upside down or tried putting it into the other gauge? I know that even with the Seat ones you have to be careful that you had it the right way up.

Almost every 'sport' model car has crome surrounds on the dash, I know what you mean Im not a chrome person either but a little here and there adds a little if its not over the top.

I agree...I have just ordered the vent rings, they seem nice because they are quite subtle, being around the lip, rather than replacing the whole ring. ;)

hmm, I know what you mean, it would be good to see some pictures of the chrome dial and vent surrounds if anyone's got any??

still not overly keen on the dial ones but the vent ones are nice and subtle . . but do seat do these? I don't really like ebay stuff in my car, especially if you have to force fit them. . . .
