As said above im getting faint turbo whistle after then cars been run (up to temp) then when i stop and let it idle for a few minutes i can hear it. Then if i rev the engine it will go then usually come back a couple of minutes later.
Im pretty sure its the turbo as you hear it stood at the rear of the car, from the exhaust. Im just wondering wether this is normal behaviour for the car?

P.S - Its a 2.0l TDI Leon mk2

Thanks.

mine turbo whistles! they all do!
the pitch of the whistle should get higher as the revs do!;)

"comes back after a couple of minutes", would have though it would return as soon as the engine settled

Revs stay the same, but you hear nothing then you get a noise as if the turbo has just spun up.

I could be sat idling for about 2-3 mins then i hear it.

seems odd it takes 2-3 mins though
maybe on idle, it takes a while for pressure to build up very gradually to a point where the whistle becomes audible

i'm not familiar with the 2.0 Leon set up so couldn't be sure TBH

Hmm, it does seem similar. I dont really notice it when its cold, its more when ive been driving quite a bit and the engine is hot

Yes, I assumed it was only when cold as that was when I would be outside the car with it running most. I have since noticed when cold and when hot, but I only notice it sometimes.

yeah its not a problem, seems to be quite common as quite a few people have said. Not everyone would notice it tho.
