Evening All!

i have come all the way over from the MK3 department! to make a long story short, i have been having issues with a MK2 ibiza! Its a baby 1.4 and has a P.I.T.A intermittent fault, it will occasionaly fire up from cold and cut out straight away and more recently it has been randomly cutting out whilst driving and refusing to start again for a while!

Everytime i try to find the problem it B****Y starts again!!!

Any ideas guys???

Thanks!!

oh, alot of people are having this, but no one has found a solution, everyone is having ever so slightly different symptoms but effectivley its doing the same thing.

will take an opening by saying, pollibly a dodgy wire somewhere on or arround the block. but f:censored:k knows which one lol

Is it injected or carbed? My 1.4 is carbed and the rubber mounting plate between the carb and inlet manifold had split which caused starting and stalling problems...if not i'd check the dizzy and leads maybe fuel filter or fuel pump?

Fuel sensor! It controls how much fuel is input for ignition, is annoyingly intermittent so I had leave my car at the garage for like a week until they could find any problem with it. The sensor costs about £40...job done!

Could be the coil giving a shoddy spark.

When does it cut out when you're driving, really randomly, like any time ? or spluttering wehn you're tryign to accelerate away or when you dump the clutch in coming up to a stop?

We've had so many of these threads recently we're getting a good little resource :p

Cheap things first

Plugs
Leads
Dizzy cap and rotor arm.

Then its the Hall sender (part of the distributor) and the coil.

Check your getting a spark when it dies if not go for the coil and the main dizzy.

a little update on this, i have spoken to my GF's mum for more info and the only time it will ever do it is when starting! it will fire up and within a second it will just die!! after a couple of trys and a lot of revving of she goes!!!

Would Vag Com (fits my MK3!) hook up anywhere, or even show a code!

I will get a multimeter and check all the HT leads and other things ect!!

Just is realy bugging me as it will only do it on starting! oh and doesnt even matter if its warm or cold!

Many thanks for any advice!!!

Nope, it should be single point injected, not carbed.
