Mmmmmm, so if the stealers are charging - lets say £80 an hour labour (is that a fair assumption ??), then 2/60ths of that will be £2.66 by my calculations....I never knew the stealers were so cheap :lol::lol:

They'll tell you it takes an hour, it doesnt it take seconds and can be done without moving the car, i've done one or two for the same reason as you but they were both driving school cars.

Apparently when the new young lady drivers were out driving with there new instructor it was a little frightening when all the doors locked at 15mph, on a country lane, in the dark....

Just about to go to brother-in-laws garage to try and de-activate it, but can't seem to locate the VAG-COM connector in the car !!
In my Skoda it was under the steering column, but it is obviously elsewhere on the Altea.
Can anyone tell me where it is ??

Panel to the right of steering wheel below the light switch.

Pull that off and its under there. It can be a bit stiff but get you fingers from underneath and it'll come off

Cheers Paul,
Spent 10 minutes trying to find it (before you posted !!!) and ended up ringing dealers (Hobins of Preston), who kindly informed me where it was - thanks Hobins.
Unfortunately, bro-in-law's software couldn't de-activate it, so tomorrow am going to local independant VW specialist who has VAGCOM, and says he will sort it for me.

Not heard of VCDS, I assume it is something similar to VAGCOM ??

Re- the reason for de-activating, I just don't like it, and fortunately live and work well away from hijacking hotspots.

I also carry an Oozi for personal protection :laser:

"I just don't like it"

Jeeeeeesus, if a little clicking noise at 15 mph bugs you then I'd hate to think what other stuff in life annoys you :D

It wasn't just the clicking noise, it was the fact that when I was either picking the wife and kids up, or dropping them off somewhere, that the doors wouldn't open. That's what we ALL found annoying....:p:p

Anyway, just been across and had them de-activated...it took about 5 minutes, and the bloke wasn't even going to charge me for doing it !!!!!!!!!!!!
However, being the decent bloke that I am, I bunged him a fiver....bargain :D:D.
If anyones local to West Yorks (Wakefield in particular) then I would thoroughly recommend him (he specialises in the VW group motors, and was doing an Ibiza when I arrived)...don't know if I am allowed to plug him on here, so PM me if you want his details.

Been told I can give him a plug, so here goes..

Right, he's called Steve Allanson, and has a small lock-up on Agbrigg Road, Wakefield.

Tel. 01924 385001 or 07833 748806

I have used him previously, when my Octavia had a problem with one of the vacuum pipes, and he spent 20 minutes fixing it, and wasn't going to charge me, and I have just had a similar experience today, when I've taken my Altea across for the auto-locking doors de-activating with VAG-COM, and again he wasn't going to charge me !!!!!
He is an all-round top bloke, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I've come across a person like this in Leeds and ended up bunging him a fiver for a couple of pints.

Now you've posted his details, he better start charging or he will be working the rest of his life for nowt :D
