Preparing for remap - questions!

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting a remap done on my Cupra (Custom Code or Performance Torque stage 1). I know most people with remaps also replace the DV with a Forge jobbie at the same time. Is this really necessary? I am assuming the standard ones are prone to failure with the increased boost, but surely if they can handle the extra oomph from the 210/225 engines then they should be able to handle a remapped 180??

If I do stick with the standard DV for now and it does fail is it likely to cause any damage, or would it just be a case of buying a Forge as and when the standard one gives up the ghost?

Also, at some point I will buy a Green panel filter for the standard airbox - will this throw things out if I add the filter after the remap?

I was advised to change the diverted valve for a Forge 007p at the same time as the remap as the standard Bosch item is plastic and tends to fail under the increased pressure. As for the air filter, your car has an adaptive ECU so changing it afterwards should'nt be a problem. I know it's not a cheap day out but it would be nice getting it all done at the same time. I can't comment on Performance Torque but you won't go far wrong with a Custom-Code remap, might be worth asking for some advice in their section.

filter after the remap will be fine. With regards to what you said about the 210/225 using the same DV, yes, but the LCR standard boost (10-12psi) is not far different from the cupra standard boost (8-10psi), and remapped cupra boost will be around 18psi (i think). It is not that the LCR runs higher boost than the cupra as standard, it is an increased volume due to the turbo being generally bigger.

If the standard dv fails I imagine it will see it as a boost leak a put you into limp mode.

I'd go P-torque... oh wait a minute.. i did go P-torque :D:D awesome map, and Will is very helpful :)

yes replace the dv, it makes a huge difference form the crap plastic bosch one

p-torque are excellent maps, i had stage 1 now have stage 2 and it is awesome tbh.

dv only around 80quid, or wait until one comes for sale on here, usually around the 50quid mark.

Thanks all!! I will check out P-Torque, not sure if they have any agents local to me though (Oxfordshire)?

**Edit - ignore me, just seen they are in Wolverhampton - might be a bit far for me**

Try R-tech. They are quite close to you and theyre mobile. And a bit cheaper.

get to wolves..... enjoy the trip back, its 110 miles form me and ive done it twice nad loved every minute.... you can wait for an hour and watch topgear also.

run a couple of tankfulls of vpower or similar high octane prior to mapping.

as to dvs the only bad thing about your stock one is its age.the bosch units arnt that bad other than a bad batch around 01-02 cars. the stock dv should run the extra boost fine.

the forge dv is the holy grail on here but there are alternatives. and they have there downsides.
007p/bailey dv30 ( i think) both metal piston style. cant tear like a diaphram. but can stick/leak. do very well if serviced regularly.
APR R1/stock bosch diaphram so frictionless, cant stick/jam due to heat. can eventually tear causing leak.

you takes your choices:)

Just round the corner.
I'm planning on P Torque to remap mine, just got to have the clutch replaced and maybe get performance panel filter. Already have the Forge SPLT R valve, and haven't had any problems.

they wont map a fmic in on stage 2 anyway, add this after and yes it will make a difference due to cooler inlet temps.

no map neeed again if added afterwards

Just had a custom code phase 1 done - special price £309 at the mo on me 1.8T LC. excellent job, really smooth right through the rev range. Lots of good sensible advice too as follows;

Might as well get the 007 fitted at the same time, probably another £90 quid. No worries of the standard plastic one failing. worries over for the long term.

Air filter: get them to fit it for free at same time, may as well. Won't affect running if you do after remap as car will adjust itself.
Green Panel (might have to wait a while for delivery - I've read on here) or as mine, a Uprated Jetter cotton panel filter etc. Don't bother with oiled or atmospheric cones on 180T or even smoothing the airbox out. Turbo is limiting factor for increased air intake on ours so no big advantage gained.

Give mine a 160 mile test down in to West Country after service and remap Friday. Don't know about the others but "Custom Code" is awesome, makes car totally drivable, no nasty spikes just better through whole range.
