Perhaps chief among these is the addition, depending on specification, of cutting-edge XDS electronic traction control technology. Mimicking the function of a conventional limited slip differential but doing without the costly and heavy mechanicals associated with existing systems, XDS works together with ESP to improve the car’s performance in situations where traction is lost by braking the wheel that loses grip.

I wonder if this means something like the MK1 Focus RS got, and I wonder if it is cancelled out if you switch ESP off.

Focus RS got mechanical LSD, and XDS is "electronic" one like in Abarth 500 or JCW Cooper S (AFAIK it breaks spinning wheel without cutting power off).

I was under the impression that the diff in the MK1 Focus was electronic rather than mechanical. I may well stand corrected, but will check it out anyway :)

Mechanical in the Focus RS I believe. Not sure electronic would be better than mechanical. Also will it work at all speeds not just low ones??? I wonder if you could program it though Vag Com or even upload the feature into the existing cars.. You never know...

Doubt it mate.

It will be worth seeing if it is any good although I doubt it would be as effective as a mechanical differential setup.

I doubt it as well.. on both counts but someone cleaver enough might manage it after all (makes assumption) the hardware on the car will be the same...

I am wondering if they are going to make the Cupra and FR very visual different cars. I mean the Focus RS looks nowt like a Focus sure it has a family resemblance but looks completely diff. Maybe they are looking to do that with the Leon. Maybe a redesigned K1 kit for the car but as standard and badged Cupra not K1. Thoughts.... (thats what I would do anyway). Though the flip side is the Cupra is very stealthy not in your face or majorly aggressive (which I like) it's all in the small details :);) Bit of luck a small powerhike on the sales boards as well to keep the 40bhp margin (though we all know the power figures are conservative) but cannot upset the apple cart can we.

Maybe. The thing is though that a lot of us Cupra owners would not have bought the car if the ugly Aero bumpers were bolted on as standard. It is going to be interesting to see if the Aero bumpers finally get thrown in the skip when the facelift comes along, and it will be great if the Cupra does look different from the FR, more muscular and not fitted as standard with across the range optional Marmite style bumpers some love and some hate.

I'm still a bit bemused why a so called sporty car and sporty image doesn't get a DSG of it's FR 170 diesel like it's more sedate brother Skoda and a Golf GT.

Leon Cupra MY2009 facelifting

Have you got any information about NEW facelifted Leon Cupra ? At the Geneva Motor Show Seat showed only FR with 211 hp.

Are they going to put the same engine or mayby more power ?

thanks,
Peter
