running it up that side of the air box you'd be passing the hot engine so may end up drawing in warmer air?

I've just read this entire thread and a thoughts...I to have been down the smoothed airbox route with green panel filter for quite some time now, I orignially did it after reading about the "turbulance" caused by the fins inside the air box slowing the flow of air past the MAF and on into the engine. I am not a fan of the holes in the air box as way too much dust and hot air is likely to get in...although I can imagine what the noise is like.....however if your going to drill holes in the box and induction kit is prob a better way to go as it will give u much more noise. Each to thier own tho.

I haven't yet increased the size of my air intake, mainly because I got a bit ambitious and got a 6inch diameter tubing but then realised it wouldn't fit! and not got round to it since.

however someone has raised a very good point.....smoothing the air box but the air intake corrigated tubing is far from smooth on the inside...meaning that if turbuance (which is what i was originally led to beleve was the reason for smoothing the box) is what I want to avoid then i dont want to be using a corrigated intake.

However saying that with the increase volume of air the turbulance may not be so much of an issue...or it could be intensified....hmmm maybe im way over thinking all this but It would be good to have a larger smooth intake....any ideas?

You can fit a 4" feed but you will need special bracket's to move the battery over, I have been thinking about useing a silicon feed pipe to smooth the air flow to the box

how about a bit of gutter down pipe with a bend in it  could work as long as it fits the hole in the airbox

i think the only isssue may be getting it to bend round tha battery if that makes sense as its not a straight line. But it would be ideal!

But then the other thing to consider is that although the "middle" part of the air intake will be bigger....I'll still be stuck with the small intake at the front of the car...so how to over come that problem? Last time i looked it was a small intake between the grill and the radiator.

Where the O/E feed pipe starts there is a bit plastic which directs the air to the scoop, this block the air flow to the bigger pipe so I snaped it off  mine just sit's behind the head light and picks up air from there

These are the bracket's you need to move the battery over, I'v not got the size's at the moment but I think FEEL made these so it might be worth asking him.

Eeeewwww, they look a bit grotty...

I have some brackets ready to go, if you're interested.

If I were you, I'd be looking at that Golf DSG Intake Feed/airbox bottom that someone posted. I don't know how much they are?

I did this today and although it sounds much nicer and louder i don't think there's any gain from it. Never heard a TDi sound so meaty! :D
