I think this highlights the hit/miss nature of dealers. Some are excellent, some are pants. I don't think this is unique to Seat. I had the same experience with Mazda with good experiences at Coulby Newham and Plymouth and bad experiences at Newton Grange in Durham...

Hopefully the interest shown by dealers such as Bournmouth and Milton Keynes will help level the standard of customer care!

Ok, first things first.

Good to see Bournmouth SEAT are now on the forum and can get feedback (hopefully all constructive) and contribute. There's lots of good info and customer debate on here!

Can I just say that personally i'm willing to post praise as well as constructive critism on the forum. Good service deserves recognition, but continued and unresponded to (email / phone calls etc) bad service should also be reflected (in the appropriate proffesional way).

I hope Martyn does stick with the brand too. I know that one of his problem is an insane insurance premium for the car he has (and underwriters wanna justify themsleves here?)

Seat Insurance have just re-launched, are tehy any good I want to know, the leaflet I have here quotes a low rate quote number of 0845 603 6038 and quote reference 7869. Please let me know as I would hope that a branded Insurance product is on the ball and sympathetic to model versions etc.

Received a letter through from them claiming to save me £10 on my premium - so I called them & said:

"hello, can I have an insurance policy for £254 please"

"excuse me?"

"I have a letter here saying that you'll save me £10 on my insurance"

"Let me run it through"

..... usual questions ......

"£618 Mr Phelps"

"Really, but it says here that you'll save me £10"

"well we can't match it, how are we meant to save you money if we can't match it"

"I don't care to be honest, better than paying double like you are offering"

That would imply that they suck to me

I bought my V5 from Bournemouth Seat this year and the service I received was fantastic. In fact it exceeded my expectations by far when I had a problem with the car.

I can't believe I was just lucky! The attitude of William and his team was absolutely excellent.

I wish they were my local dealer!

i had seat insurance for a few months, they initially quoted 1700 odd quid (Cordoba SX late '99), when the salesman (i know him personally) typed in a lower figure, it accepted it, so i eventually got the insurance for 1450 so there is a fair amount of haggling to be had there, if it wasnt for the company that SEAT uses, who were pretty ruthless with their direct debits etc i would certainly use them again. As it is , im back with Sabre through a province wide broker over here, paying 1750 but way happier with their service as i have used them for a couple of years before the SEAT incident.
My local Seat dealership is pretty much spot on.
Under warranty i had the following work carried out,
1. New gearbox .. original box had done less than 10k before missing gears ie wouldnt go into second gear above 20 mph and 3rd was so notchy it hurt. It was tested and replaced inside a week, very happy with that as it was just before my trip across to curborough to visit some hooligans off here.
2. ABS sensors x 3 (front left each time!)
3. ABS control Unit (fixed problem of ABS cutting in at all sorts of speeds and was pretty dangerous as it wouldnt let me stop, even in slow moving traffic, or on the opposite side of the coin, locking up at will!)
Also under warranty, i had the following (non warranty?) parts replaced.
4. new skirt jack point covers as old ones were a bit loose !
5. number plates (sticky pads kept failing!)
6. reverse lights sorted twice (first time under warranty, sensor failed/moved out of placing. Second time was done inside a year of it being repaired.
7. i got a customer service call from the dealer asking how the repairs went ( a fortnight ago) i told them that my handbrake light and sidelight lamps were dead, straight away peter, the servicing manager phoned me back and said that next time i'm passing they will sort it.
8. also got a spare dash bulb for nowt when i was in buying a new PAS belt.
All in all im pretty happy with the dealer, brand and cars i've had.:D

I think we're pretty lucky with our SEAT dealers in the south west. Amethyst aren't a million miles away, and they have a good rep, I hear Richardsons are good (and no bad comments yet) and I'm still getting on OK with SMC in Exeter. My wife prefers County in Teignmouth (my most local dealer) but she got her car from them and I didn't, and I'm not even going to give them a shot if they can't open their workshop on a Saturday morning.

I had a nightmare with Subaru. Parks of Exeter couldn't get me even a price for floor mats, did a 45k service (replacing the brake pads without asking for my authorisation first) and told me the cam belt wasn't due on my car until 60k only for me to find out at 54k that it was 9k overdue. Their service manager didn't even know what Optimax was FFS, and I had to tell them to replace the llamba sensor under warranty even after they'd told me that the fault code causing the 'check engine' light to come on was the llambda (and they hd it all week to diagnose). At least they washed it I suppose.

The dealer (in north Wales) that did the service at 54k (I strongly suspect but can't prove) dented the passenger door, and when I traded it 700 miles and 4 days later I got a phone call the next day saying that it had no oil in it to the point that it needed a rebuild. Until then I checked it weekly and put about 1/2 litre in it between services, so that sounds a bit fishy to me...

I have to say recently - in the past few weeks i went into Bmth seat and was wholly disgusted by the service i recieved.

The sales man i spoke to was incredibly rude and didnt know his stuff - its always wise to try and stay one step ahead of the customer in new developments, he was a good few behind and on realising this got ruder and ruder.

I also spoke to the parts/service dept about some warranty issues i have with water in the lights and rear brake problems - i didnt appreciate being told that i should expect my brakes to corrode and that only some of the lights would be replaced under warranty, the fogs and rear lights were covered but not the headlights because "even the new ones we can fit will leak" - hardly a great advert for your build quality is it!

I was told i would get a call within a week about the parts for my car to be booked in but dont expect it to be done til well into the new year - not great having to wait a long time, but sometimes inevitable - even worse is that i havn't recieved any communication from the parts department to book the car in like promised!

All in all the general customer service from all departments has recently gone downhill in a BIG way - i am very unimpressed with the level of service recieved recently and shall be looking for another garage to do the warranty work and impending 20K service on my Leon.

hmmmmm i purchased my seat ibiza 1.9 tdi from these guys,customer service was ok,cars been ace,had it nearly a year now!
Shame there now moving from castle lane to hankinson road in bournemouth....wonder what happened there after there recent and dare i say it expencive re-fit!
