Hi Guys,

I bought a mk2 tdi 2.0 2006 (18k miles) last weekend..

When I start the car from cold it is pumping out loads of white / blueish tint smoke until the engine has completely warmed up.

Another thing I have noticed is that the coolant level dropped below min from above max in around 200 miles worth of driving. Im sure something is wrong somewhere.

Anyone experienced this kind of thing before? I am taking it back to the garage i bought it from with a video of evidence tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

Damon

Update..

Had my father in-law look at the car earlier, filled the water to brim and checked for bubbles on top (sign of head gasket apparently). Doesn't seem to be that!

How close are you to the end of the warranty? Might be worth having a look before that runs out. It's probably nothing as mentioned before. However wouldn't you rather have it checked out while it's still the dealers' responsibility?

Could be a sensor that's gone bad .... but white smoke doesn't sound good - start up smoke should clear after a couple of seconds.

Have you had the turbo checked / hoses checked / also check the inside of the oil filler cap - i'd be concerned as to where all that water has gone.

Is it possible to be the head gasket, or would the smoke stay white throughout the time it was on?

Unless the leak seals when the temps increase and the gaskets / block expand ...... i would have thought it would be constant yes.

It's possible the turbo is leaking oil into the exhaust which is then burning off ..... either way it needs looking at as its not right.
