I test drove a lovely black Fabia Vrs (06 reg, 45k miles) this morning and I am thinking of selling my Ibiza FR 20VT to pay for it! The dealer said I would only get about £4k for mine  so I was wondering about selling it privately or through this forum.

Just a few questions for you folks:

1. Should I sell the FR and buy a Fabia Vrs? The Vrs was sweet and very pacey, the biggest selling point being the far superior MPG of the Fabia over the FR. (I did 19,000 miles in one year in the FR!) Slightly softer suspension too!

2. What would my FR be worth through a private sale?
Spec list: 55 plate Ibiza FR 20VT, 42k miles, full SEAT service history.
Mods: Leon Cupra "starfish" 17" alloys, HIDs, Forge 007 recirc valve, LCR splitter, Green cotton filter, modded airbox, Seat Sport strut brace, badgeless grill, Polo rear wiper, aero front wipers.

With the offer from the dealer and the value of the Vrs, I would have to stump up £2k. I thought I would get more if I sell it privately and make that difference smaller! What are your thoughts folks?

dealers are desperate to sell at the mo so could he not meet you half way then you'd only have to pay £1k or come to some sort of deal, like when i part ex'd my corolla for my ibiza they did the cambelt, serviced it, taxed it and few in a few freebies then on the day i got them to knock another £250 off before i signed. they did all this without even ever seeing my corolla til the day i brought it in to swap! and this was before the official recession etc so i should think you'd get a better deal now coz they're desperate. i know my car has lost about £2k in value since i bought it in april 2008, so its hard to say what you'd get private now! its worth a go tho!

personally i wouldn't bother for minor differences...especially with the money you've spent on mods

i test drove an FR and a VRS before buying my 130 sport and i thought the vrs interior was a let down compared to the FR and the car i ended up buying, but its all personal choice. its a buyers market at the moment, but no so good for the selling or part ex i think :( so you'll have to really love that VRS to swap i think!

I love the MPG! I want performance AND good MPG so the Vrs fits the bill. I love the FR, don't get me wrong but I have had it for one year now and done just under 20k miles in that time!

in that case if you love what you've got but you're getting a bit bored and you need better MPG then thats the next best thing i'd say! i think you've talked yourself into it haha

if you love the mpg and love your seat get an fr diesel problem solved,im not actually sure why people love the vrs fabia so much each to there own but why a skoda? i used to work for them as a mechanic they are good cars but they have 5 DOORS. but you should follow your heart not what others think.

Yeah because SEAT is a premium brand...

People buy Skoda because its MUCH, MUCH more satisfying seeing the faces of BMW 318i drivers when they get pissed on by one.

Some of us need 5 doors to put the kiddie winkles in through, and the Fabia VRS has that little bit more useful space than the Ibiza.

I had a 55 VRS & now have my FR. Prefer the FRs to the VRS because:

3 doors
Better Interior - VRS is quite dated IMHO
Like how it looks externally

BTW my FR is a TDi
