So, as a few will know, I am in the range for a SPort PD 130, '03 plate.

Due to my crap finances, I have decided to get the car I like and interested in, to go for high milage.

120k on the clock, 20,000/pa = Longer distances, m/way cruiser = engine would still be in very good nick. The car is question looks in very good condition, bodywork and paint very good.

Full service history, 2 owners.

The question:

What are common problems at this milage, anything to look out for, what to expect etc. Never braught a high miler, just low milers with good condition, service history etc.

Info please :D

Check cam belt and water pump have been done (twice!). Tyres and brakes could be in any condition at that mileage. Engine and turbo should be fine even at 120k. Bushes could be worn.

Thanks, though at Motorway miler, the brakes will last a lot longer, bushes should be too bad. Thanks for advice. Deffo correct about water pump and cam belt though!

Yea they will last longer, but might have only been changed once, 60k miles ago or something :)

Had a service at 119k, didn't explain much about it. Had a new starter motor, and 'dash board?'.

May I ask why we would need a new dashboard? Unless he did somthnig rather stupid?

How much is the car? if you don't mind me asking. I've seen 52plate 130s with 60k go for around £3,000 recently

So £400-700 for 60k less? Personally i'd try n get a bit more money together and go for a lower mileage example.

Yes the engines can go on for thousands of miles but what state would all the running gear be in? You may end up having to spend a few hundred getting parts replaced after a few months of driving it.

When they say "dash board" they probably mean "instrument cluster". It is quite common for the cluster to develop an intermittent fault where the fuel and/or temp gages play up.

The new cluster is about £600 fitted and paired to the immobilliser.

Doesn't mean I pay the asking price. I rekon £2,400 should be enough to squeeze out of him. He will find it difficult selling a 120k car ;)

Ahh cheers mate. NOOB ALERT: WHat's a cluster

I have found in similair engines that the crank pulley likes to start sounding like a bag of spanners and evidentally dies.

Yes, what you do you think?

:) Hard to say.But on the surface it ticks all the boxes.
Price is about right, cracking rare colour,FSH,1 owner almost all it's life. You're right,to do the kind of mileage in such a short time is motorway work.6 gear cruising at 1900 rpm.No stress on the engine.Don't be afraid of high milers, especially with such a lightly stressed engine.,and a FSH.
Usual cam belt/waterpump checks. If it's not been done recently(it's due every 60k or 4 years whichever comes first),it could be why he's selling it.Budget on about £300 ish for the work.If it's due then you can use that to bring down the price.
It's priced about right, but if the belts been done,i'd start bidding at about £2300-2400.Depends on that belt change though. If it's not been done, make sure he knows that you know the cost for the work, and how important it is.

Great advice. I am going to bargin him down to atleast £2,500 if all the cambelt and tensioners have been done. I think he should go for £2,400.

I'll either get him to do the cam belt etc if its not been down, or bargin the price down considerably with plenty of work on him. (that sounds gay?)

I love the colour, superb. Looks clean etc, I think I'm onto a winner. I'll text him, (is that 0707 number a mobile not area code?)

EDIT: He said he's selling due to new car? ALso, very recent service looks promising for cambelt.

I think the 0707 numbers one you can use to link your home, mobile, work etc altogether. The one below it is a mobile though.I see he's on e mail as well.
It's a well worded ad.I get the impression that he knows his stuff, and will be trying to drive a hard bargain. So be on your guard.
Remember, there's plenty more 130 Sports to be found. If this one rings any alarm bells, turn and walk away.
Go with someone else for a second opinion. They'll always see stuff you could miss.
