bang from engine then black smoke

hi guys

cars has decided to go bang! it went thump under the bonnet while driving about 20 then there was no power so put foot down and got lots of smoke.

Now its struggles to get up to speed it starts to chug around the turbo rev range and sounds like its blowing like a dodgy exhaust

any ideas anyone had this before? its booked in for weds but was just wondering what to expect or if i should look into a new or (bigger) turbo

Any help would be great

I agree.

Blown turbo symptoms are much more severe (such as bits of impeller lodging themselves in your pistons). A quick POP then smoke & no boost sounds exactly like a popped hose. It's making no boost for this reason and is running in limp mode for the same reason.

Dont book it in mate. It will be a blown hose.

Mine and many others here have had the same thing happen. The clips let go and they blow off - typical on a Leon on the lower intercooler connection.

Take a look, follow the hoses from the turbo as they route around the front of the car. You'll find it

thanks guys hope it is only this. there is no engine management lights on tho so does this mean its not in limp mode

Its not in limp mode it just has no boost. No boost equalls no performance ie probably struggle to get much over 30mph!

I had this in my Golf, the intercooler hose had blown off.

Its just a intercooler pipe thats come off? You shouldnt be driving it however until you fix it, as it will be sucking crap into the pipes and could knacker up more bits. So fix it, dont drive it!

happened to me xmas time,

on the leon 150 it came off underneath the drivers fog light , as i have a front mount , if urs is the same check there, my m8 clipped it back in in a couple of mins when we were on dinner break,

hi guys

Just an update it was the intercooler pipe that had come loose so car was producing no boost the pipe has knuckle like fitment at each end and these knuckles had just worn down so when i popped it in it popped out when car was boosting. So its was no turbo issue thank god. Got garage to pop pipe on as didnt fancy doing it.

The hose clips that connect the hose to the intercooler get worn over time and then the hose pops off. Easy to fix yourself. Be ok to limp home very steadily.

my car has just done the same thing however the engine management light is on and the coil light also flashed for a little while. would it just be the hose or would there be a deeper problem?

help - same happened to me tonight only when my went it snapped some of the aluminium pipe have a small fragment of it in my pocket at the moment - do i need to replace the alloy piece now or can i simply replace the clip? will post pictures if needed - to get home i simple cable tied the rubber hose to the alloy pipe had no or little boost though-
