starter motor recond??

so i have a dodgy starter motor. the sollenoid inside this starter is ****ed and need to know how much it would be to get it recond or if it is cheaper to get one new??

I usually buy new, but for a starter I would be tempted to go scrap.

They are pretty hard wearing normally, and if you can get one for about £15 scrap its a cheap fix.

I think its an easy job, I think there are only two through bolts holding it on.

Plus if you can go on popular websites and find a car listed for parts that has low miles might be a good one.

I got a brand new recon one from a big auction site for £10 plus postage there are good deals to be done if you look around :)

I thought they were 'exchange' parts - i.e. you give them your old one in return for buying a new one (well that's what happened at GSF).

this is true, normaly charge you the full amount and you get a small refund then you return your old one.

Low miles may not mean anything with a starter. Mine needed reconditioned at 26k, just 1k after buying the car from 1 lady owner since new. I guess she was continously stalling the car for 7 years or just driving 100 yards every day:D
Started causing more problems now at 73k. Sometimes does not engage but just try it again and it works. Learned to live with that now, not the biggest problem I am having with the car.
