TDI cost per mile = 9.96 pence (based on 99 per litre)

TFI cost for 3000 miles a month = £377.06

I still dont see how anybody but wayne sleep could manage to average 34mpg over 3,000 miles in a petrol FR

Anyway if you do 3,000 miles a month its fair to guess most will be on a motorway in which case the diesel is faster and quieter as well as being cheaper...

No point discussing if a tdi is faster than a tfsi!!! Because plainly it is not. Its like comparing a harley and a sportsbike. Sportsbikes are clearly quicker but just because you dont have to change down gears in a harley to access the torque does not make it better?!

I tried the fr tdi and enjoyed the big dollop of torque when the revs are right, i just prefer the linear feel of stomping on the accelerater in 4th at 60 and accelerating at the same rate all the way up to 100+ without changing gear. 'sufing' the torque in a diesel in wet weather can be quite good fun, if a bit dodgey with the traction control turned off.

I dont want a quiet car infact i wish it sounded louder and more like the focus st.

Maybe the only advice is to actually try both cars and see which suits your driving style when choosing acar..

I actualy regret choosing a petrol BMW 1 series as unlike the diesel I tested it could not be steered on the throttle, , diesel torque in a rwd car = oversteer = fun!! Smoother power deliver imho suits front wheel drive more.

Considering selling the petrol FR for a diesel FR or Ibiza FR TDI. I am probably going to average around 10,000 miles a year now so would a diesel be worth it? I fill up between 3-4 times a month.

I have a petrol fr.

800 miles a month (depending on roads and conditions) in your tfsi would be approx £105 per month (based on 13 p per mile)

The tdi works out about 10 p per mile and would equate to £80 per month.

Save about £25 a month, £300 per annum.

(not inc any savings on car tax, depreciation, insurance)

With the amount you've probably lost on the petrol FR it probably wouldn't be worth changing in the short term.

I live 20 miles from work and I fill up twice a month.... good old diesel tractors. I laugh at st's everytime I see them at their natural grazing area.... the petrol station
