WISBECH racing driving Liam McMillan is to continue his phenomenal progress by entering the British Touring Car Series.
McMillan, 18, has raced for just three years but is preparing to compete in what is arguably Britian's most popular form of motorsport.
Race meetings bring in crowds of around 30,000 people.
They are all shown live on ITV4 and last season's 10 race meetings attracted a total of more than 11.5 million viewers.
Liam's father and manager Paul McMillan said: "I believe this is the first time that anybody has progressed to British Touring Cars in three years.
"Liam's been driving cars that are just as fast as British Touring Car vehicles, but with such a big audience, he'll be competing on a much bigger stage. It's bigger than Formula 1 for most motorsport enthusiasts in Britain. Races are closer and more exciting.
"It would be nerve-racking for most lads of his age but he seems to take everything in his stride."
Liam will be racing in an ex-works SEAT Toledo run in an independent team, funded mainly through sponsorship.
Liam, who has previously been sponsored by the Wisbech Standard, has been mentored over the last three years by World Touring Car driver Rob Huff, from Red Lodge near Newmarket.
Liam said: "Rob's a top driver and I've learnt lots from him both on and off the track.
"He sat next to me in a car and taught me many things. Rob's well known for braking late on corners. People don't know how he does it but there's a special technique. He's passed this on to me and I've adapted his techniques to my own style."
Liam has spent the last year racing in Spain in the SEAT Leon Supercopa series.
He finished last season in 10th overall with a triple podium finish in his last race meeting. His first year was racing in SAXMAX.
Liam said: "I've made big steps in my racing career very quickly. This next stage will be nerve-racking and I expect it will take time to adapt, but I'm only 18 years old and time is on my side.
"I hope to go on to race World Touring Cars and become a full-time paid driver. Getting paid good money to do something I love would be a dream come true."
Icy conditions and fog prevented Liam from taking part in his first testing session at Silverstone at the weekend. He is expecting to test at Snetterton on Tuesday and then Brands Hatch on January 29.
