Aero wiper arm conversion

Hope u folks can help with this one.

On reading Pabs guide for the front wiper arms to be converted to the aero style ones, I rang my local VW who were NOT very helpful and was told that the part number was for a completly different arm, which I thought was a bit strange and the VW Golf MK IV arms were a different part no.

So he quoted me on a Golf MK IV 53 plate wiper arms for £34.36 drivers and £33.99 passenger inc vat.

Would this be correct if I were to order them and do the conversion or is there a more up to date part number so to speak?

Thanks

You can buy Aero Blades for you current hook style arms if you want but the flat Aero Arms look alot better. You do need to trim either the O/S or N/S blade though as it's too long, then glue the end bac on.

However, I decided to test the water 1st with Aero Blades on the OEM hook arms and I am rather impressed with how they work. They look a little better than the OEM blades and they clean the screen alot better. The best part was, as I didn't want to spend £££ on a test mod, that I got the blades for £4 each :D...Tesco jobbies I must admit but they work and for that price, I couldn't even care whether they only last 6 months.

I am wondering if the new shape Astra Aero Arms will fit though, I see alot of those written of at the scrap yard, more so than Golf's with Aero Arms anyway. I'll take a trip there this weekend and post up if all goes well.

Ummm I believe that the passenger side one they sell is the same size as OEM (19") but the drivers side one should be 21" which I couldn't find either, assuming Tesco don't sell it in that size. Instead I bought a 22" with the view to trim (didn't care because it was only £4) but I fitted it and it works fine as it is, doesn't hit the roof, the A Pillar or the other blade at all. I needed to bend the blade a little so it hugs the screen on the outer edge better, because of the extra 1/2" of blade on that side, but it works perfect now. I bent the passenger side blade a little too but didn't really need it.

I hope that info helps :).

P.S. By bending the blade, I don't mean bending it out of shape, I mean just putting a little pressure on it so the metal strips pull the rubber down a bit better. Thought i'd mention in case anyone turns it into a right angle :D

I went for the retro fit Aero blades on the standard arms. Although they are far better than standard blades, the arms are still ugly and don't really go with the style of the blades.

Once my current aero blades wear out, I will be doing the full Mk4 arm conversion.

I don't have them yet, that list is more or less a wish list that needs updating really but the headlamps are coming soon.

Unfortunately you can't get non-angel eye headlamps but FK Automotive do a pair for about £160 that look very subtle/OEM. My plan, depending on how obvious the angel eyes are in the flesh, was to either leave them in and not wire them as the FK lamps come with a hole for an OEM sidelight bulb also or if they stood out too much, take them out. I like the FK lamps because as far as I am aware, they are the only angel eye lamp to come ready for fitment of OEM sidelamps as an alternative.

I can't remember the website though but i'll have a look tomorrow and post up if i find it.

I already have the retro fit Bosch Aero blades on the standard arms.
How do these compare to the conversion kit from VW?

Not sure about how well the conversion option operates in comparison to the retro fit blades, but the retro fit blades fit the screen better.

The conversion option overhang slightly on the passenger side a touch...

I had the standard arms with aero blades on my old leon; and i have the full arm and blade conversion on my LCR; the full conversion is much much and wipes very efficiently, even at high speeds when the others would start to lift from the screen..

Thanks for that info DannyC87.
Do you have the part number for the arms, as when I phoned my VW dealers with the part numbers from PABS guide I was told these were incorrect.
Or is it easier just to ask for MkIV golf wiper arms?

Thanks.

no sorry; and vagparts is offline so i can't get the numbers easily - make sure you ask for the aero wiper arms; not just normal arms :)

Hello all.

I just fitted my aero flat blade wipers that I ordered from eBay & I have to say that I am very impressed with them - only cost £11 delivered so am well chuffed!

I got them in 21" + 19" & seem fine but will have a proper look in the morning when there's a little more daylight out there!

Just thought I'd post to help others decide as it's such a cheap but seemingly effective mod!

:)

Here's the item number - just paste it into the eBay search - let me know if it doesn't work & I'll sort a link out! ;)

No doubt they do - must admit the blades on a standard arm do look a little odd, but it's a good, super-simple mod, especially if it's only a temporary measure while funds are low.
I'll try to get a pic up soon for all to see the oddness of my arms! :)
