No lol I know that they constantly work to combust the fuel but what I meant was is that simply what they do or do they contribute to performance ;)

If they have been in too long then you will notice a big difference when you change them

I changed them 2 years ago and they did need changeing, I had the oil and filter's done at the same time so it's hard to say how much of it was the plug's but it did feel better.
It's going in next month to have a full service again.

I used to change the plug's on my old car every year and I left them a bit too long once and they made a big difference when I changed them, That was on a Rover 220 Turbo.

I have been reading around the internet and found that some plugs, although they fit, seem to work better on some cars over others. For example, some cars I've read have reported improved performance from fitting Bosch Super 4's, and others report misfiring and flat spots.

I was tempted by the Bosch Super 4s as they are a great price for the set but am unsure if they will suit the 1.8t engine...

I'm unsure when the plugs were last changed btw which is why I'm changing all the necessary filters, plugs and oil :) It does run pretty quiet when warm but as said the engine splutters slightly now and again.

I always used to use NGK plugs, Might be worth ask SEAT what plugs they recomend, I'm sure they say Platinum's for the LCR's

Euro Car Parts do good prices on NGKs, about £20 for a set. However I can't seem to access the Seat Leon parts database? The homepage works fine.

Also is it me or does the GSF online parts shop stock very little?? I see no sign of spark plugs or fuel/oil filters on there :S

Dont know mate, I dont do them myself on my LCR as I want to keep the service book stamped, But I would'nt have thought it would be too hard. Just dont put them in too tight.

:) I will bare that in mind. I have heard spark plugs are only around £4 each direct from the dealers - is this true and would they be OK to use instead of the super shiney platinum ones if we ignore that longevity factor?

Yeah you can get normal plug's for about that price and they should be Ok.

Is your car mapped or modded for performance in anyway or do you plan to do anything to it ???

It currently has a Forge 007p, cold air intake, decat and downpipe, and exhaust. I'm getting the car in tip-top shape ready for a stage 2 remap within the next month or so :)

They should be Ok.

It might be worth talking to the company thats going to do the remap and see what they recomend.

Well on idle my car slutters and misfires SLIGHTLY so I'm hoping it could be down to the spark plugs

Have you took the throttle off and cleaned it? if not then definitely do.

As for the plugs some plugs do work better than others on different engines. I know on BM's if you replace plugs that have 2 electrodes for plugs with 4 electrodes you get yourself a nasty misfire. If I was you I would do as D.K suggested and speak to the tuning company as they know what their maps based on.

As for changing its a simple task but don't overtighten them, it shouldn't be too difficult to find out the correct torque for them.

Yeah, definately worth remembering not to overtighten them.
I got advised (on the old ibiza) to do them fingertight and 1/4 turn of the spark plug spanner.
