Need to top up my FR TFSi

HI

I know there are other threads on here for this but it was all a bit confusing!!

I need to top up the oil as its down to the min but my local dealer is over 50miles away, so I will have to get some from my local VAG specialists, What do I ask for exactley? On the receipt from the last service it says 10w 40 Synta oil but doesn't say which one ie 504,00?? or give the make of oil.

Any help would be great

The synta gold is made by Quantum although from memory its 5-40 fully synthetic not 10-40. In theory you can top it up with any fully synthetic oil of the same grade ie 5-40.

The vag spec for the synta gold is 502.00/505.00

I did hear that they are phasing out this oil along with the PD oils

I just checked the receipt again and it definatley says 10w - 40 Synta oil £8.95 a litre as well!!

Hmmmmm Maybe I will go to the nearest VW garage to see if they have it, as its a lot closer than the SEAT dealership???

There is a page in the manual which says the spec to use.

I'm pretty sure 504.00 is one of the recommended ones.

Otherwise the Castrol website can give the recommended oil based on reg number. I used Castrol Edge in the Cupra.

My dealer actually put the wrong oil in at the service and SEAT said it may cause the car to need servicing sooner, so I got it changed to the correct one.

I went up my local audi/vw specialists and they said that they have synta 10w 40 and its ok to use with any of the Synta 10w 40 and it was £6+vat ish!?!?!

I forgot my wallet so I didn't buy any, but are they telling me lies or what?? anyone?

Checked the top up I got with my Cupra and that was Quantum Longlife III 5W 30.

I'd need to search through my old posts to confirm specs but they are in the handbook.

Just checked and the recommended specs are as follows:

501 01, 502 00 or 504 00

This was supplied by SEAT.

From my experience though my dealer claimed that SEAT told them to wrong specs.

He did say that it was ok unless it was on a long life service but as the manual said 10w 40 then the one they had there would be fine??

That's what happend with me.

I topped up the oil at 4K miles and had checked on here, with SEAT and on the net what oil to use and the basic conclusion was it had to meet or exceed those specs. Ended up buying a litre of Castrol Edge for £15 or something like that from Halfords, topped up jobs a good un.

Took the car in for its 10K service and they'd put a bottle of top up oil in the boot. When I looked closely it was Castrol Magnatec which seemed strange.

Looked at the receipt and they had charged me for the top up bottle put the spec also said 10W 40 and looking on the bottle it didn't meet any of the VAG specs for my car.

Spoke to SEAT and they investigated, got a voicemail from SEAT

"Although it won't cause any damage or affect performance it is the WRONG oil for your car and the dealer should know what oil to put in. It will also mean the car needs servicing sooner"

Rang the dealer and they denied all knowledge until pushed and after speaking to SEAT they agreed to replace it FOC.

They actually removed the top up bottle of Castrol Magnatec from the car even though it was hidden under the seat but they did give me a top up bottle of Quantum.

The dealer blamed it on duff info on their system which links into SEAT.

The one thing that confuses me though is how would I know the car needs servicing sooner as the service indicator is just on a fixed countdown on the Leon as far as I know.

All that I can say for certain is the specs of the oil they put in didn't match what SEAT told me or that in the handbook.

Hmmmmmm thanks for the info, I might ring the Dealer where i got it serviced tomorrow to ask them just to make sure before buying it!?!?!?!

Oil required for an 07 Tfsi - from hand book-VW 501 01, 502 00, 504 00.
5w30 or 5w 40
10w 30 or 10w 40
The label should show the VW spec number one of the 3 quoted.
If you use any oil which carries those codes you are OK if you don't you may argue that your choice met ACEA or API standards and was of the correct viscosity. If they use different oil they cannot (IMO) avoid the warranty costs if a problem arises.

I went and bought it today and it's Quantum Synta 10w 40 VW spec 505.00. They said it would be fine to top it up???

My car just came back from a service today and they had left me a bottle of Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 on the passenger seat. The service manager said this was the recommended oil for a turbo engine like the one in the FR
