Engine Conversion

Hello Guys iv been thinking about getting a FR Leon for some time now but also been thinking about swaping my perterol 1.2 engine for the cupra 1.9TDI engine for a bit of a project.
Was wondering if anyone on here knows what it would roughly cost to get a relativly new engine and what i would need to make it work obviously taking into account upgrading my breaks and suspension.

So anyone know???

Insurence would pull your eyes out for a start, it would be cheaper to sell up and buy a cupra. It would cost less.

Oh also, if your going from petrol to derv you'd need to change A LOT

nope it would be a very fast 1.2 thats my point and its something to do plus by the time ov finished with the car it would be quicker thn a normal cupra.

I would guess it would cost about the same as the Cupra you get the engine, turbo, intake, exhaust and fuel systems from plus the transmission, electrics, mounts, tools, insurance etc. and then maybe some more on top. So you may as well just buy a Cupra and use that?

You would probebly save time cutting the front of the car off and starting again, then the fuel tank.... the worst part will getting it insured!
You can get an FR for from £5000 second hand!

Depending on who dose it the transplant is probably going to set you back anything from £2000 to £5000 (depending on who supplies the engine and if you can get a good rate from a local guarage or if you go to a specilist) plus extras like suspension, new hubs, bigger rotors and calipers (PSi gave me a rough quote on a transplant for my Mk5 polo last week at around £6k). They are not cheap things to do, if I were looking at it I would never bother with an engine you could have got in the car in the first place. An R32 or 2L 16v TDi Ibiza would be more eye catching and probably only slightly more to insure than a 1.2 to 1.9tdi transplant.

Agreed with the above, however id not drop the 2.0L 16v derv in, id try and shoehorn a 3.0 or bigger from the Q7 etc....

i agree with everyone above but at the same time imagine the shock people would have when you pull away from them,its kind of like the idea of putting a hyabusa engine in a smart car,maybe you should consider that a bike engined seat could be intresting possible a waist of time though.

It would be more sensible to buy a Cupra and fit the standard bodykit to it in this scenario - and a lot cheaper too - I bet there are scores of people on here who would bite your hand off if you offered to swap your Cupra kit for their standard

if you need a project car why not buy a old VAG classic and do that up?

Thinking here like a old audi s2 or something along those lines!
