Green Cotton filter is your best bet. Induction kits will just about fit if you remove the air box

The filter is a straight swap for the OEM one, so uses the standard box and piping. Will offer very little by way of sound or performance gain for your car on its own. If you want noise then get an induction kit. Mine sounded great on my old Citroen AX...

You need to mount it to the right of that MAF sensor. The other pipe goes to the secondairy air pump (used for cold starts). Some people have removed this pump. Not sure what you should do with the pipe if you don't tho, as it needs to be filtered.

so i could fit a smaller filter to the secondairy air pump? what about the big pipe which goes from the box to the front of the car?

Most universal induction kits don't come with piping to fit to the MAF, so you will have to knock something up! The large'ish tube coming from the engine to the filter box is just a breather pipe from the head. You can get small filters for the top of these so that it just breathes to the engine bay!

The breather pipe goes into the turbo intake pipe I think, rather than into the air box. The small pipe coming from the air box goes to the air pump and then to the kombi valve. It pumps air into the exhaust system on cold starts when it's running rich to generate heat and get the cat upto temperature quickly to help emissions.

The larger pipe going to the front of the car is the air intake into the air box, which you won't have if you have the cone filter, altho it might work as a cold air feed

;) Cheers mate, you learn something new everyday! Was a breather on my old AX...

I have a cheapo one on mine and it does the job nicely. Looks the same but red instead of silver.
I would femove the whole airbox and make a little support for the filter if I were you mate.

here is mine

looks good, if i kept the airbox in would it damage anything?

I left my airbox in for a fedw days and it started to push the filter down into the bottom of the airbox. It will also restrict the air flow.

Make sure you make some sort od support for it or it will just sag down and cause problems. I fixed me support to the fixing point for the bottom of the airbox, next to the battrey. You can see it in my last pic.
