Ha Ha, i don't think i'll get away with that!!! I don't think it's seen sight of polish bottle in 2/3 years!!! At least if it goes wrong it's not my car!!! Lol

Worth a try.

Just remember to start at the low end and work your way up if needed. You can go at it with a cutting pad and your most abrasive polish but it might not be needed. Start at the lower end and if thats not quite cutting it them you can work up. Again don't step up to a more aggresive pad and polish because it's not giving you the results straight away, if it is correcting the paint as much as you would like then give it another pass and another and another. If it's still failing on the correction level then you can consider steping up to a more aggrsive polish and pad.

You can even play with the pads and polish combe. You have lots of options. Don't think because you have 3 pads and 3 polishes that the most aggresive pad has to use the most aggresive polish. You can use your polishing pad with an aggresive cutting polish or an aggresive pad with a intermediate polish.

I will chuck you in a small bottle of 303 to mist the pad with first also. Always mist the foam pads to keep them moist before applying your chosen product so that when applied to the car paint it's not dry.

Well happy christmas guys, opened up my presents, all recieved in tip top shape, this morning and wanted to give it bash striaght away but it was to cold!!! Might have a go tomorrow thinking about it.

Well i had a bash and tried it on the bonnet, all i can say is it's brilliant the bonnet now looks red rather than pink,

All i used was the polishing pad with megs #85 diamond cut done twice then the same pad with the megs #83 cleaner/polish. Toppped off with megs #80 speed glaze on the finishing pad.

Cars not in the best of condition (work car) so excuse the stone chips,
Just got the rest of the car to do now!!!

What I want to know is, how reusable are the polishing and finishing pads? Are they washable or do they lose some of their softness. Do they become a hazard?

in all fairness, save a bit cash and buy the Kestrel DAS-6
itll do EXACTLY the same job as the megs G220

I washed them out when i'd finished in clean water and they are ok but i suppose over time they might degrade a bit.

Hi Tim,

Glad you are feeling confident cause that is a big factor...BUT...

I don't wan't to pour water on your fire but you have had a good go at a faded red astra and while you have certainly pulled the colour back and it's looking great that is a very small part in your mission.

Have you checked under lighting for defect removal? The colour will fastly come back to life on certain paints and colours but defect removal needs more time and techiques.

Sorry I'm not trying to be negative even if it might sound that way.

Another thing is when you get into correcting paintwork on a red astra and you think you have mastered that you will get another blow when you go to correct a metalic black audi for example because you will again require new techniques and extra long patience due to this paint being particularly hard.

Like I say tho you have produced a really good colour restoration on that bonnet and that is a great starting point.

As for the smaller backing plates we don't carry them as yet. We do for have smaller backing plates M14 thread but this will not do you for the G220, You need 5/16 thread like this:-

i havent checked for defect removal simply because my aim was to try and bring the colour back first and practice then perhaps defect removal, i've only done the bonnet so got the rest of the car to do yet!!

As for other cars i can see what your saying not all paint is the same i know, i'll get some more practice in soon hopefully.
