To tie in with your other thread RobT, it appears people are happy to spend lots of money making their cars look low and wide giving the impression they are fast and handle well, whilst in reality they are death traps. I do giggle when I try and go around roundabouts tho.

hmmm, and I thought the TYRES weren't safe. Seems thats the least of our worries. Wouldn't want that nutjob doing my tyres.
lol.. My BBs's arent splitties, just good old fashion RA's which have a slight dish/lip , I picked them up for a steal in comparison to the price I see them going for on ED38 and the 'Bay.. just like the style of them and Im bored of my 'Rils now...
Bet he doesn't have a problem with body roll any more. mind you. he probably turned the corner at the end of his 'block' and had no wheelarches

I like a tiny bit of strech but nothing like whats been posted. Also I would only do it on show rims/car. I wouldn't ever drive on them (well except postioning the car)
ive not heared of any bad things happening, and thats on most dub related forums, (correct me if im wrong) the surface area that connects to the road stays the same, its just the sidewalls that are different.
i have just fitted 225 40s to a 9.5j rim and they look the dogs IMO safety wise? well, ive read nothing like i said above really bad happening its just what some people say, whatever their reason may be to criticise, the yanks have been running stretch for ages now and people continue to do so over here.
im sure if something happened people woud stop doing it right?

i had a slight strech on a set of rims on the mk1 van, looks good, handles fine, didnt have any trouble at all, but some of these pics are just stupid looking!! think its all about being modist IMO!
tyres are probably the most important safety element of a car - after all they keep you in contact with the road. Tyre manufacturers make available what size tyres should be fitted to what size rims. And idiots ignore this and think they know better and somehow its ok.........

When you have to brake hard / emergency stop, doesn't the footprint of a front tyre increase on a 'normal' car in response to the weight distribution being thrown forward? This should increase the grip surface whereas I doubt this could happen on a stretched tyre.
I suppose if your 'scening' such things aren't important as image is everything!!

Yeah well that doesn't stop the eskimos 'blowing' tyres back onto the rim - although i guess its life or death out there, not quite the same as looking cool whilst cruizin past halfrauds on a saturday night?
Can't see the point in stretched to that extent, it's all about looks and nothing to do with performance - for most people that'd be a pointless mod. I'd be interested to see what the police / insurer would say after an accident, especially if there was fatality involved.

it's illegal in the eyes of VOSA (and therefore insurance is invalid, and your car could justifiably be impounded if inspected)

But I bet no sceneboys would dare SVA their car, because they know full well that they'd fail.
RobT's discussion about sidewall deformation, and heat build up is very real - feel your tyres after sitting at 70mph on the motorway for 20 mins - I bet yours are going to be nice & toasty compared to most (and yours in the wrong places)
Just because people do it doesn't make it right - it just demonstrates that there are still stupid people out there....
