Card Holder won't stay closed

Hi everyone

Has anyone had a problem where the card holder in a Mk3 Ibiza Cupra won't stay closed?

My "Morrisons Miles" card got stuck in it and after a bit of messing about I managed to get it out. However, the card holder will not stay closed. Is there a mechanism that may have broken and can be repaired or is it just easier to get a new one from the dealers?

Here's some pics:

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

like those stooooopid plastic bits that cover the mechanism at the side of the seats. i've kicked them off and glued them back on more times. a got cheesed off with 'em and stuffed 'em in the boot in the end. i call it the "retro" look. :censored:

Thanks for the replies so far guys but I've no luck with it and I can't see any broken clips. Should the card holder stay closed when out of the car or does it rely on catching on something in the dash to hold it in place?

On another note, after removing the card holder my CD changer now doesn't work!!! Every time I press the "CD" button on the main panel, the display just says "CHANGER". Anyone else have this problem?

Steve M's brother here. I'm writing this for him as while he was sat inside in the warm house like a sensible person I was in his car cursing like a good 'un! Quick update:

Decided to tape the card holder shut and put it back in as TBH it's pretty useless! May invest in another one come the warmer weather.

It took ages to make sure all the wiring went back neatly behind the dash (took the radio out for better access when fixing the card holder). Got there in the end but I NEVER want to take that bloody thing out ever again! A quick tip - make sure the blower direction knob turns all the way around before bolting everything back in and replacing the fascia panel. The wires can get tangled up in it resulting in it jamming!

There was a slight issue where the front LCD display wasn't working properly but I think that was down to the very flimsy ribbon cable that connects the radio unit to the fascia panel becoming slightly loose. Making sure it was fully pressed in seems to have cured it (fingers crossed!)

The only problem left now is still the fact that when the "CD" button is pressed the display just flashes "CHANGER". The CD cartridge doesn't eject out of the cd changer either and a quick test with a multimeter leads me to suspect there is no power getting to the cd changer. All the plugs are connected behind the head unit. Is this a known problem? Please don't tell me I have to remove the head unit again as I think I'd go insane!

If we can get that fixed I'll treat it to a good wash and wax to celebrate! Then it's just a question of figuring out where the annoying vibration is coming from in the tailgate!

Ahh, I feel much better after getting that off my chest!

Cheers!

vibration in the tailgate is a common fault. usually the locking mechanism. i solved mine by taking the plastic off the boot and covering the locking mechanism in grease. :)

al;so, about the cd changer.. go into the boot and follow the cables back from the cd changer, it should come to a plug.. make sure thats connected properly. it'll be under the carpet material on the passenger side in the boot :)

Thanks! I'll take a look at that tomorrow. The vibration from the tailgate is driving us crazy so if greasing the lock fixes it that would be great!

Steve M's bro here again.

Checked the connection to the CD changer in the boot. There doesn't seem to be any power getting to it (can't eject the cartridge out). Anyone else had a similar problem with theirs? It's a genuine 6 disc changer. All that happens still when you press the "CD" button is the word "CHANGER" appears on the screen.

I love trying to diagnose electrical problems almost as much as trying to find where all the rattles and vibrations are coming from lol!

Thanks!
