Flames !?!?

Ok, driving home from work today and a mate was behind me. I got to a section of road where i opened it up from a stand still and he called me straight away to say that I had spat a flame out the back ?

Is this good ?

Is this bad ?

I had a mate with a sx2000 that used to do it alot but i would never have thought my ibiza would do it ?

excess fuel in the exhuast sparking up from the heat ?!?!
I would be a tad wary of it personally.. I know some 'Yoof' love their cars to spark they fit sparkplugs into the piping to get this effect.

what exhaust system do you have on there? if you have a decat then upon booting you may get this occasionally! my golf gti when hitting around 6k and changing will spit a big flame! another friend of mine has his timing a little out so his does it all the time and he will be sorting this soon!

so if it does it ALL the time then could possible be overfueling/timing

if everynow and then i would'nt worry about it!......unless a plod is behind you

check for leaks, or hose splits

you shouldn't get this with a cat though unless something is really wrong

Its got a decat, dont think its a massive issue though...as far as i know its not doing it all the time...and my MPG is fair so its not leaking.

it will be from the decat then and excess fuel in the gasses in the exhaust my mates EK civic does the same every now and then especialy in low gears at bout 6/5k revs when he's bin tootaling a long then hammers it

mate my 106 gti use to pop flames tha had a stairt through system from first to second one hell of a bang and a flame and also in 5th at inbetween 4k an 5k just tap the throttle an it would spit flames. got ride ov it now and got my self a leon cupra... do miss the pug apart from the ride (back breaker)

yer there well bad our macdonalds car park is either full of people in realy bad cars like all of a sudden thers been a mass of realy badly moddified fiat bravos and puntos apear from no where tis funny tho cos they look like 12year olds in there trackies revving there standard engines with universal backboxes bolted/welded on they bought from ebay cos it said it would give their car a "sporty" tone lol
