Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone is having the same problem as me. Ive just brought a Seat Leon 2.0 TDI FR, had it for about 3 months and done 7000 miles. The Bridgestones it came on are about down to the tread indicator already!!!

Is it me driving the car to vigirously or a common problem with the Bridgestones. I had a mini cooper before this and i thought that was bad with tyre wear when i had to replace the front at 15000 miles!!!!

Fantastic car though!!!! Glad i made the swop.

hi there, i've had my tdi since april with brand new dunlop sp9000 i think and they lasted only 8k just so i have stuck on there now tried and tested to death conti sport contact 2or 3's had them on my old focus rs and new st and they where good for 15k of hard driving

I got 37k miles out of the first set of tyres on my FR TDI. I do a few m-way miles, but that also included a load of alpine passes, Evo triangle etc, etc. They were Michelin Pilot Exaltos, so maybe the Bridgestones are a lot softer.

I get the tyres rotated at every service so that they wear more evenly. I was surprised that I got 37k out of them though. They just kept going!

I will be lucky if the Bridgestones last me to the 10k service! I think im going to try the Continentals depending on price for my next set, Or I might just rotate the wheels this weekend.

Any one else got recommendations for tyres?

Another thing ive noticed with the FR on Bridgestones is it is very very easy to light up the front wheels in second gear, if your not gentle with the throttle as soon as the turbo kicks in there is no traction at all!!!! Traction control goes mad but cant tame it. You have to change up to 3rd!!!

Although I only have a chipped 1.9TDI Leon I do like to drive it hard(TC off mostly ) especially corners, roundabouts and the likes.
The Continental SportContact 3 is what I have now and they're now on for 24K miles and still have almost 3mm's left.

If you have the choice take the SportContact 3 not the 2. It has way better wheel protection, a rubber ring which sticks out about half an inch.
Because of this thick sidewall they're quite hard though. Used to have Falken FK452 but they where nowhere as grippy, silent or durable(18K miles completely gone!).

I would say the FR TDI is particularly sore on front tyres because of all that torque. With a heavy foot, a remap its sometimes hard to pull away without any wheelspin unless your grannying it

i got approx 30k out of my tyres from new. got them rotated at the services so even wear - they were pirellis now replaced with goodyear eagle f1s which seem fine at approx 15k in

I have still the original Bridgestones on mine and I have done over 12000 mainly motorway miles. Looking at them this morning they certainly look good for 20K.

Could the diameter of the wheels make a difference?

EG the Quality of Bridgestones fitted to 17in alloys is lower than those fitted to 18in alloys, ie OEM Bridgestones last longer on 18in wheels than on 17in

I got 32K out of my factory fitted fronts (Michellin).

I was very shocked I have to say, never had that from a set of fronts....especially considering the sh*t traction control on these cars!

How do you get 30K of front wheel miles out of a set of tyres? Rotating I can understand, its like 15K x2,but 30K all on the front????

My Pirelli 18 inchers are getting visibly chewed through and I've only done 8K. I'm guessing by 15K at the most they'll be well done.

I don't know, as I said, I was shocked. Unless someone has been changing them for me during the last year

I can assure you though, it is a lease car so not coming out of my pocket and took them to ATS on about 31800 miles and I am pretty sure I still had a good 2mm plus on them.

It was just with the ice cold weather and all that, they felt much slippier than normal.

The fact that I didn't have to swallow the £500 for the 2 tyres was a bonus!!

If im not going to get to my 10k service without changing my front tyres i MUST be driving it too hard looking at all the comments!!!!

Ive managed to get my hands on a Tread Depth Gauge today so i will take the depth tomrrow when its stopped pissing it down!!!!

I suppose it can be deceptive when looking down the tread, we will see. I dont want to slow down but will have no choice, cant afford new tyres every 9k lol

I've took the tread depth and I've still got 4mm left. Looks alot less than that but I think they're good for about another 4 or 5k.

I swapped mine round at around 13k - currently at 20.5k, and still a good amount left all round

Mine are Potenza RE050's
