After 4 and a half years, the Cupra finally let me down.

Annoying thing is that it was in for a service not 2 days ago, and I only drove it back from the dealership, and parked it outside the house till this morning.

Lights come on, coil packs light up, and extinguish etc, all normal (inc diesel in the tank!)... but twist the key and there is nothing. No turn over, nothing at all. (Dont think I remember hearing the fuel pump)

I did have VAG COM till the HD on my computer frazzeled on Monday, so cant look for any codes (so if anyone in SE london/ Kent wants some beer tokens you know where to come).

Im thinking a fuse/relay or ignition switch problem.

I robbed the other halfs car this morning, and will be attempting to fix it tonight in the dark (if its a simple problem). I will also be calling out the AA (which I am about to sign up with).

Anything I should be looking out for?? Anything would be appreciated.

If your Cupra's an 04 you might still have Seat Assist breakdown cover, my Cupra's and 04 and I have 5 years cover, give them a ring and see.

Is this something an AA guy can temporarily fix???, and should the dealership have picked up on this (it was in two days ago)?

Car is going into AMD for some toys on monday, so im happy for them to fix it, and I only need the car for tomorrow.

Cheers :)

If the AA guy can crimp new connectors\cables on then yes. The dealer probably wouldn't pick it up tbh as it's not a standard thing in a service.

Cheers. It really confused me this morning I can tell you! Early start coupled with a car not even turning over. I opened the bonnet to see if there was anything untoward, and all I could see is pitch black darkness

Cheers for the help... its put my mind a little at ease :)

No problem. Now give me 4 of your 10 wheels as payment. :p

Tempting ;) but I'll pass. :D

Im over in Sunny Bromley, about 25 minutes from Tumbridge Wells (on a good run ;)).

Car doesn't click/turn over at all. Everything else works, so sounds like the wire has fallen off/broke to the starter motor/solenoid.

Touch wood the AA man can sort it out.

Nah its runs out with the warrranty I called up and asked it runs out with the warranty then the mods and the RAC cover commenced!

Mine is definitely still covered, I rang about a month ago to find out when I was considering joining the AA, I'm covered until September 09.

My Cupra has 5 years AA cover, I've had to use it several times in recent months as my starter wire keeps on falling apart. It seems to be a very common thing on Ibiza TDIs! SEAT have made the wire about 2cm too short, hense the snapping. Get the AA man to extend the wire so it doesn't happen again, thats the way I cured mine.

Mine was registered 31/07/04, and it says in the service wallet about my 5 years cover. Yours might be the same, aimez.

Has anyone got a pic of where the starter motor is? Or could tell me where to look. Might aswell check to see if mine is ok...don't want to be stuck with a non starting car in the winter!

ahhh well, AA guy came out. Long story short, starter motor is dead. Going to bump start it on Monday and take it to AMD.

Anyone know how much they are?
