Subaru out of WRC

Scooby owners must be baulking into their hot chocolate over this, Subaru becoming a bog standard car company selling hatchbacks, diesels and 4X4's to the school run brigade. Mind you, Mitsubishi gave up the WRC a few years ago and I doubt it affected sales of the EVO much at all.

I can see all forms of motorsport being affected by the global economic downturn.

Maybe it's because Prodrive are buying Honda F1 Racing

I was thinking along the same lines...maybe Prodrive have suggested to Subaru that F1 might be a better option than Rallying.....not really their target audience, but they have achieved everything they need to in rallying, maybe time for a new project?

Subaru have in recent months said they intend to enter the WTCC from 2010, this was thought at the time to be alongside the WRC program. But seems they maybe taking a year out to develop their touring car ambitions. Unless of course they put that on ice too.

With Toyota owning a stake in Subaru I doubt they've got money to embark on a F1 adventure right now tbh. I reckon they're already losing enough money with their own F1 effort and wouldn't want another loss making exercise with another team.

I didn't realise Toyota had a stake in Subaru.

I was just thinking about the links between Prodrive and BAR/Honda in the past....probably wishful thinking.

Having them in WTC would be good!!!

Subaru probably put their wtcc ambitions on hold also. 2009 is going to be such a terrible year for car manufacturers that they are all cost cutting like crazy. Things are alot worse than you guys could imagine!
