Nope, not your usual remap post.. I bought a Bluefin kit for my PD140 today and am having trouble getting the software to connect to their server - firewalls etc are all off and the IP address (83.245.102.97) in the manual seems to be dead, even using an online ping..

Could anyone with it handy confirm whether they can connect or not?

Many thanks!

Will do.. think the +75NM of torque will be most noticeable as I do mostly motorway driving..

Hopefully will be a bit smoother in first / second too.. their map curve doesn't show loads of difference, but some..

i used to have a Superchips map on my ex Megane Sport.
a month or so after i bought the map, i bought my now Leon FR.

i pleaded with them to take back the map and load a new map onto my FR, i just didn't want to lose the money that i paid for it and its not a small sum.
on Bluefin units, they will reset the units if a customer changes vehicles within 6 months or something like that, however they won't do it with serial port remapping...huh?
all they could do was just offer me a Bluefin unit at cost for my FR, a sign of goodwill from Superchips.
i won't ever support Superchips ever again...even if i have the money to throw away.

i apologise if i'm hijacking the thread.

thanx,

fair enough...it was my choice to change my car.

my issue is that why can they assist Bluefin customers and not the ones who has Superchips!
the above mentioned statement wasn't meant to be a question...in case anybody is wondering.

I think the fact they offered you a new one at cost was pretty good, and you could have sold the old one on ebay surely....?

EBay...there's no such thing here in South Africa.
we have something called the Junk Mail...however nobody will look for a chip in that sort of advertising.

Well, I've had the email to say my map is ready so will download it and stick it on when I get home.. assuming I can get on the server!

Will see what the weather's like as to whether I test drive it tonight..

Got it installed last night.. for those that want to know the process is as follows (doesn't seem to be described anywhere):

  1. Buy you Bluefin
  2. Plug it into your car so it can read you current map
  3. Plug it into your PC so it can upload your map to Superchips
  4. Wait while they sort out your map (up to 8 working hours).. (annoying when you bought it on your way home from work on Friday.. but hey-ho!)
  5. Receive email / text informing you that your map is ready
  6. Plug it into your PC to download your map
  7. Plug it into you car to upload the map
  8. Go!

Initial impressions are good, if not amazing.. but then my motorway commute in heavy traffic didn't really give me a good chance to open it up. But.. definitely feels a lot more torquey in the mid-range - putting your foot down in 4/5/6th certainly had more punch. Low down there's not much difference until you hit about 2k when the extra torque kicks in and it's a lot easier to trigger the ESP..

Personally I think the performance is deceptive - the smoothness of the map and the lazy nature of the engine means that you get torquier acceleration rather than 'kick in the back'.. very easy to not realise how quick you are suddenly going! Again though, on my daily commute I'm probably not getting the best out of it.. time will tell when I get a chance to hit the B-roads!

Insurance wise.. I'm with Privilege and it cost me about a tenner a month extra (with FR bumpers specified also). Will see if I can get that down a bit in March when my policy expires.. according to their website policies with Adrian Flux may remain unchanged.

Thanks for the info m8, you even have the best colour too!

Im with Privilege too so will give them a call hopefully will be as cheap but I doubt it as I have only been driving for 3 years!

As long as its not a ridiculous amount on the insurance mine will be ordered tomorrow!

No worries.. after a bit more of a drive I'm really starting to warm to it - the key is to keep it above ~2k (as indicated by the chart mentioned before) and then it flies when you put your foot down.

Does the bluefin unit mean you can take the map off whenever you like, or do you have to contact superchips to get the original map from them?

I think so.. I guess it either stores the original map on the Bluefin device so you can re-upload it or saves it 'to one side' in the ECU and just switches between them like some others allow you to do (REVO).

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to support reading of ECU diagnostic error codes as it suggests it does for some cars (non-specified).

BlackMagicLeon,

I have got a Bluefin code on my K1. I bought it 2 years ago, in which time I have had it reprogrammed at Superchips Buckingham HQ 3 times now, to suit new cars.
The first time I upgraded, (to my 2nd Altea deisel), they did it FOC, as I bought the Bluefin less than 12 months prior. From the 2nd Altea to my K1, it was £100 (over 12 months & it was the second reprogram)

I recently had the car serviced & returned it to standard ( just plug Bluefin into diagnostic port & let it do its thing) NEVER had any troubles. It makes 237bhp seem tame when you return to standard!!

Superchip claim 290 ish bhp. This feels about right, as it flies aftre 4500 rpm.

I do get the impression guys on here totally dismiss Bluefin against Revo. Both are very good. Without doubt, Revo churns out "slightly more" lb/ft & bhp. BUT when I returned K1 to standard, it returned 2mpg LESS. Make of that what you like, but, I am more than happy with my dealings with Superchip/Bluefin. Revo is necessary, should stage 2 tuning is required, but, you start to bolt manifolds, pumps on, then the cost spirals compared to benifits. £500 for a chip for 50bhp is not bad.
£500 for a downpipe for 20 ish bhp is less VFM & a pump cost is worse.

You pay your money, & take your choice!!

It would make no benifit to me to swap. I can, when the K1 goes (long while yet!), simply return it to standard setting &, if my next motor is compatible with Bluefin, have it recoded.
