yes it does ask any revo dealer

You are confused :)

With REvo, not sure about any other map, if the battery is disconnected for a long period of time, (not sure? over an hour or something?) the revo settings will revert to 0 - 0 - 0 (timing, boost, fuel). The map is still there, but the settings have reverted to zero. i know this as it happened on my car, and spoke to Revo about it personally.

I doubt this will be a problem with other maps.

Hey... Just call your tuner and re-flash it... It cost something maybe, but you dont have to deal nothing with your dealer, which could avoid maybe your warranty ;)

See above - I asked the company who tuned it and they want £125 to re-do it :(

how about you ask a revo dealer and then come back to me and tell me i'm right, cheers!

what about i supply of parts a revo dealer and the owner is one of my best friends ?

it reverts to stock (stock setting you dont loose the repro) you go back to your dealer and then they will put your stage I or stage II and if you get a update you will have to go again...

now tell im not right ?

and most revo tuners will do it for free or charge a small fee but you wont pay whatever it costs in UK to reflash.

if they disconnected the battery the car reverts back to stock

Where did you get this information from? so you loose everything even if you had a flat battery ?

The software is written to an EEPROM chip which will not loose the map when the battery is disconnected as far as I know. I have never heard of a map being lost because of the battery being disconnected. There are some faults that are logged by the car that can be cleared if the battery is disconnected.

I guess you should have checked when you originally had the map put on how much it would cost to re-flash.... The dealer 'should' have told you that they were going to flash an update to the ecu but its difficult to try and push the point seeing as you just got some warranty work done!

Please name and shame your remapper on here for the scandalous profiteering!!!!!!

Just ask the dealer what work they carried out on your car.
if you dont want to ask in case you think they will be suspicious why you ask then give SEAT customer care a ring they should hold all your cars logs and work that was carried under warranty.
do u know ne 1 with vagcom who can read ur ecu for you , should tell you the revision of software that your ecu is at.

hope this helps.

it is standard these days for main dealers to put a car on the computer regardless of what it came in for, if there was an ecu update out they would have flashed it and you would have lost your remapp.

as has been said Revo and other palces are more expensive but you get the support for problems such as this.

in fairness to the guy who mapped your car it sounds like he just buys the maps and installes them, its possable he has to pay for downloading the map again himself.

If it was me, I'd ring ya garage and ask if they flashed it outright, don't have to tell them why, just be careful what you say.

I was under the impression they should ask of atleast notify you before doing this (they did me) ? If they have, I'd kick up a MASSIVE fuss regarding the £125 to re-flash from the other guy. It's so easy to do if you've got the software, like flashing a phone! You've already bought the product you only need about 10 minutes of they're time and unless they're F1 race team I'm pretty sure the guys labour isn't worth £125 for 10 mins work..

I'm not too up on cars but I am with computers - When you flash say a motherbord on a PC, the firmware is overwritten with the default settings of new firmware (i.e Revo) but any custom changes you have made after the new flash will be reset to default of the new flash after about 45 minutes if you take out the battery of the motherboard. I think it's probably the same for the car, so the 3rd party flashed firmware is on there, just not customised to your car possibly.

Either way I wouldn't just sit on it, or you'll be dissapointed everytime you put your foot down if you leave it! If it's not an issue with the flash you need to get onto the garage to speed it up again before your warrenty expires!

The issue with that is the only reason you would ask is if you had it remapped surely. And if that find out it has been remapped they may refuse to do further warranty work on some of the car.

Yeah I agree, but if it's worded right he should be fine. Maybe just ask for a breakdown of the work done as he hasn't received any yet? Should be clearly listed on there. How many miles have ya done dev? Is the clutch a common thing to go?

I've done just over 40k miles - I'm not sure how long a clutch would be expected to last on one of these.

Unfortunately at the time of having it mapped, I wasn't aware that it could be lost from battery disconnection so didn't ask such things.

The tuner is http://www.pendleperformance.com/

Other than Revo, does anyone have any other info [re-flash prices etc] from other tuners which I might b able to use in an argument against this?

Can I please make it clear that you do not lose the whole map from disconnecting the battery!!

You will lose the data it has build up in its adaption and any personal settings for example on a revo

so if you disconnect the battery the car will revert back to stock power levels simple as that.

and you will have to go to your revo dealer so they put the values again unless you have the sps+

so if they ran an update of the ECU software, would it overwrite the full map and have to be fully done again or would it just need "tweaking" again?
Obviously I don't know whether it is a case of battery disconnection or overwritten map!

Yes it would be overwritten and you would need the car to be remapped. I expect this is what has happened in your case

I emailed the re-mapper saying I thought it might just have reset and got the following reply:

The someone who you know who does the Revo remaps hasn't a clue what he is talking about.
Rest it to 0,0,0 on timing, boost & fuel I have never heard of such a load of bull in all my time.

The dealers have done a software update which will over write the software which was in the vehicle
it's not a case of resetting anything like you friend who knows nothing said.
