i drive remmaped fr tdi with 225/45/17 tyres.

at the moment it has the worst possible ditch finders on the front, and it is a bit dangerous with all that torque and not much grip.

due a new set of fronts within the next few months so any recommendations.

will spend about £110 fitted per tyres, tryed my tyres and stuff but not sure what to get.

was thinking dunlops, pzero rossos, toyo t1r's/S's.

any experiences

the best tyres going are Goodyear F1 Asym's (without spending silly money). The most popular/recommend cheaper alternative is Falken 452's.

I've just had two F1 Asym's fitted on my LC 225/45/17 by a mobile fitter for £232.

The wise one has spoken & lo he is right...all the way!

Although my local tyre dealer fitted a pair for £200...

A couple of weeks ago I had four Goodyear Assy F1's fitted for £415 thanks to Black circles.com

Dig around on google etc and you'll find a discount code to go with it too!

Ditch free ever since :p

I put on the new vredesteins i think they are called the sessanta. I got these for £100 for one tyre but you might have to look around for a price like that because i know King davids were going to charge me 135+VAT. but i would definately reccomend these

F1 GSD3's have been known to wear unevenly  especially on the back - I should know I've had 6 pairs  (do a searchy)

Falkens coping well in the rain at the mo - maybe slightly less grip as the GSD3's, but they wear better and only cost £62.00 each!

I would agree with that for sure - i had GSD3's on the rear of my LCR and they last 13k only! Had 4mm left on the outer rim but on the tread depth indicators on the inside. They were made in China one's incidentally. On the front they exhibited the same tread wear pattern, bald on the inside and 4mm on the outside and yes i did have my tracking done and geometry checked. I only got 4k out of my passenger side wheel. Very disappointing for a relatively expensive tyre, since i don't drive it like i stole it.

Switched to the new Asymmetric F1 now but they've only done 100 miles so its way too soon to comment on wear or performance. I would definately avoid the GSD3's now though unless you have deep pockets. Their only saving grace, if you can call it that, was that they offered a great level of grip in wet and dry conditions.

Well I've now done 350 miles on my new F1 Asym's and I have to say that are starting to show promise. The first 10 miles was a total mare in the rain, the wheels were just spinning under the lighest load - the factory release agent took at least 20 miles to scrub off (cause it was wet). These is less wheels spin when pulling a way with a little power, but the wheel spin is now more bang-bang-bang then slippage. Have been through a few big puddles and there was no pulling which was very impressive.

The only thing that has thrown me so far is the tyres are not directional asymmetric, I was expecting both sides to the car to be a forward facing arrow design like the GSD3 (/\), but the tyre would appear to be a straight forward this side out... so you end up with NSF (/|) and OSF (|/). Did anyone else think as first - hold on a minute I've got two near side tyres?

Just had 4 Eagle F1s Asymmetrics fitted. Got the extra load ones of camskill for about £350 delivered. Ordered them on Friday and they arrived on Tuesday. Then spent the next few days trying to find a garage who could fit them. Loads of garages wouldn't touch my wheels because they said the profile was too small and the wheels would get scratched. And I've only got 17" standard FR+ Tdi wheels with 225/45 tyres!

Of course Kwik Fit & the likes said they only fitted tyres they sell but they wanted £580 for all four fitted! Funny they'll happily take a tyre they didn't sell of the rim for repairing a puncture but won't fit tyres from new unless they supply them.

Anyway evntually got my tyres fitted on Saturday for £40. Guys fitted them fine, but driving home notied a signifcant pull to one side. Got home let the tyres cool and then checked the pressures. They had inflated both left wheels to 28 PSI and the two right wheel to 36 PSI. what a bunch of numpties.

But the F1's are excellent once scrubbed off. The grip is so much better than my Pzero asimmetricos (rubbish tyre, don't ever waste your money on these) and the F1s are SO quiet. :D

Highly recommended.

Always amazes me the amount of cars you see on junk tyres, even the likes of £20-30k BM's running nankangs or the such. Or cars boyed up with massive brake kits and huge wheels then junk tyres, like the brakes will do anything when your tyres don't grip the road.
My escort always had bridgestones on and I never had any trouble, not sure what the Leon will be running when the time comes to change them.

Any tyre fitters that won't do a 225/45 17 tyre shouldn't be fitting tyres, i'm terrible and I can still fit them quite easily, and thats run flats with a solid tyre wall.
