Cost of going BT and parts needed?

The gt3071 is about 450/460 ,the td05 is at 430/440 both turbo are maxed out on pump fuel(v-power).
I know a gt2871r will not hold more than 1.6bar at redline and a gt3071 will hit 2 bar ,if it was my choice between the two i'd go for a gt3071r with 0.63 ex housing on a 1.8t. I think the td05h 16g6 special i have on my car above is probably far superior too both as far as a road car goes but there is no standard rotation and scroll in that format unfortunately.

TD type turbos need to be clocked ie turned through 180 degrees to fit the 1.8T

Still liking the owens garret/IHI hybrds so i can keep my mani ( should be good for 450bhp max )

Is this because of surge,as it has been a problem with evo's hence using the 0.82 housing.

in fact, is 400 even achieveable on a small port head?

as Bill explained a lot of people stick a big turbo and manifold on it thinking it will make high figures, which it can but the poor head cant flow the air and eventually leads to all sorts of issues

and what is surging or the cause of surging?

Td05 is standard fitment to evo's and the latest versions are capable of the above so most people go straight to the Gt3076R if upgrading turbo's or they try a evo FP green or Red.
460-500bhp rated turbo's

The evo is reverse rotation so that means the turbo spins in the opposite direction!!
It's also twin scroll as opposed to the single scroll of the standard 1.8t.

ah right, I understand, so twin scroll allowing for quicker spool of course on the TD turbos

Caveo, are you still looking at that massive Garrett one? wont it be too laggy? as its meant for 2.0l as a minimum and our 1.8cc engines cant flow enough to make the turbo spool up quickly enough, making it very laggy?

I don't tune 1.8t's so i don't know but i would say that it can't it would have to be pretty crap.

surge basically when you have a big compressor and small turbine therefore it forcibly slows the compressor down and the compressor takes gulps of air putting massive strain on it.

I should be 1.9L by then and am loking at doing the valve train so to take the revs to 8500+ and also porting the head.

then leading to air which cant be flowed quick enough, and with the air not being able to flow, temps building and building till something cracks, I get ya, I remember Bill saying now

Hooch, what were the cause of your surge problems, turbo, manifold or exhaust?

more serious than me then! thats some serious mula!:D

so you will be looking more towards 500bhp with that sort of work being done

surge is down to a mismatch of comp to turbine wheels or housing size ,capacity or any resriction
