Kirkcaldy!!
It seems my car doesn't like the cold icy weather as the ABS has failed.

took car out to see if it was still working but it doesnt, only skids.

is there anything to look for, something that could cause it. or do i need to take it to get vag com'd ?

thanks simon.

could be a dirty sensor, the amount of crap on the roads at the min could easily have made the sensor too dirty

cheers i was hoping it would be a dirty sensor or somthing but half way through the day the EML came on :(

waited at my local friendly garage from 3 - 4:30 no one seemed to be around  will have to try again tmz!

is it possible to clean the sensors ? do you know if there easier enough to whip out n give them a dust lol
cheers, simon

sounds like air mass meter to me. they normally throw up EML and T/C

and then the TCS and abs does not work either

Remember AFAIK or can remember, ABS will operate correctly above XXmph, if you ended up going very slowly and locked all four wheels then the controller might not be able to work out that anything was wrong as all sensors would agree that the car was stationary. Does it still perform its selftest very soon after it is started and you move off?

No, that just tests the light is working, the system carries out a self test while you are moving at low speed, the reason that the ABS light is coming back on after that is because the system has failed the selftest - mayeb just a wheel sensor as you suspect, VAG-COM would help identify that and which one. Once you know what to listen for (the high pressure pump running for a short period) you will know when it is running this selftest.

This is a real pain, my old VX GSI 2000 4X4 once had a problem - and that problem started when the roads first got icey - like not very handy really - jsut in your case extremely bad timing! That fault turned out to be a failed ABS controller - but under Network Q extended warranty all the wheel sensors needed changing - the fronts got changed twice!! It was an early version of the Bosch ABS controller and it did not hand over fault codes!

I had a similar prob altho dont know if the ABS worked or not.

My ABS, TCS and handbrake lights all lit up and flashed and beeped and did all sorts of things while I was driving. Took it to the dealer who 2nd time around found it to be a faulty ABS sensor which they replaced. And so far so good. Was done under warranty aswell so pleased about that.

it does, copied
"In modern vehicles, traction-control systems utilize the same wheel-speed sensors employed by the antilock braking system. These sensors measure differences in rotational speed to determine if the wheels that are receiving power have lost traction."

anyways had a look at GSF and they only seem to be £14.25 so not bank breaking sums of money lol
mines is in at 2pm to get it checked so heres hoping:p

gfs, is just a parts website seen many ppl talking about it on here, so had a look.

well got my car back from the garage and it came up with 2 faults. 1st was n/s abs sensor and 2nd one was code "P0600" which i believe is Communication Link Malfunction, used the search:)

is it worth while maybe giving the sensor a clean or will i just get a new one. but the other fault is this maybe somthing to do with the abs sensor or something else as it came on 12 hours after the abs light?

many thanks simon
