ibiza rear speakers

hello

I have a 1999 ibiza, and I am currently trying to connect some speakers to the rear of my car, the wires are already wired into the car, they are coloured blue and brown, both have stripes, which one do I connect to the Positive of the speaker, and which to the negative?

Viel Dank

Pretty sure the brown will be negative. In any case, it's not going to make a massive amount of difference if you connect both rear speakers reverse polarity. It's when you wire the two speakers out of phase (i.e. one correct, one reverse polarity) that you'll start having bother. And even that's nothing too serious, you'll just be a little lacking in the bass frequencies.

thank you

I though the brown would have been positive, but I think you are right, as the negitive earths on the car are brown.

thanks for your quick response:)

gunna be gettin some 6x9 for christmas, so does everyone just cut the plug off the stock rear ones and use that wire on the 6x9's?

or do you get better sound if you run a new cable back there?

Rule of thumb I always go by is that if u turn the speaker upside down and look at the writing the +ve is always on the right.

My big bro use to make speakers and thats what he told me years ago lol.

If you're running them direct off the head unit, you might as well just use the factory wires - the current handling is adequate for the sort of power most head units are capable of kicking out. Make sure the head unit will kick out enough grunt though - there's nowt worse than the sound of an amplifier being run to the point of overdrive just to get a speaker moving. And it's an excellent way to break the speakers too. Probably as many speakers get knackered that way than by overdriving the speaker with an overpowered amp. If you're planning on using a separate amp, run some fresh cables tho.

Should be fine running that mines a Panasonic MOSFET (whatever that means) 50x4 watts and its has plenty of juice for JBL's, probably a bit too much still at the higher volumes!

Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor :p

Basically better components to amplify compared to normal transistors, most CD players use them these days!
