Brakes Upgrade

Hope I can get some good advice here:

With my recent upgrades, I feel the OE brakes are not as good as I now need, can anyone point me in the right direction for some good quality but not too expensive discs/calipers ?

Brembo's are out of my league at the mo

Theres 312 caliper carriers for 996 rears on ebay at the moment, and the guy thats selling them also does an upgrade kit to 325mm discs. Similar to the Brembos in dimensions but 1/2 as much pad area again.

Carriers and calipers for the 312 setup shouldnt cost more than 250 quid another 70 quid for lines and pads and you've got an affordable package.

will the porsche 1s be same as the cupra R brembos . . .ive been looking for a new set up for ages but cnt find any rear brembos any advice ?

The 996 rears are quite a bit different to the GT calipers off the Leon. The leon caliper takes a 28mm disc the 996 Rear caliper a 25mm thick disc.

The porsche calipers are monoblock with slightly smaller pistons that the cupra calipers, it does give you significantly better bite and a solid pedal with no initial travel.

The 996 rears are dimensionally the same as 2.7 Boxster fronts, but the boxster fronts need the connecting pipes reversing. The boxster fronts also have bigger pistons.

These calipers (needing refurbing) will cost you 150-200 from a breaker, sandblast and paint £50 plus the carriers £120 add pads and lines and you're at the price a brand new pair of cupra calipers (only) went on ebay for recently

so all you need is the carriers, calipers and lines and obviously pads?

nothing else for a strait conversion

even worse, i like a caliper that has got big PORSCHE written all over it...( not decals before you say owt).

I looked at ecs stage 3 which uses a boxter rear calaper and put next to the Brembo GT jr kit the pots were alot smaller ( on the porker ones )

Smaller pistons doesnt always mean poorer performance, by definition bigger pots mean bigger pedal travel, assuming the pistons are big enough as opposed to biggest then its pad size that matters most. The porsche 996 rear pad is 1/2 as big again as the brembo pad.

I've sold some ferrari 360 calipers to guys on the golf forum that they've paired up with 355mm discs who report big pedal travel then fantastic performance. (the 360 calipers are a bolt on upgrade for the smaller piston lcr calipers)
