Hi,

Have noticed over the last few days my brakes have a squeek in the last 5-10mph of speed just before i stop. You can clearly hear it over low radio or talking in the car.

They do it when cold 1st thing in the morning and i done motorway speed to 0 in 200yds and they still made a squeek betwee 5-10mph and 0.

Ive had the car for 2 weeks and its got 5300 miles.

This cannot be normal? Ive never driven a car with squeeky brakes before so its a bit annoying.

Should it be something the dealer should fix?

In front of a PC....
It could be anything mate from a stone being stuck to a build up of brake dust. Take it to the dealer and they will fix it for you (is the car brand new?? Should be covered under warranty)

Hi Alex,

Its not new, its 08 ex-domonstrator so still under warranty and also only having it 2 weeks i should still be under some protections there.

Are there any checks i can do to save the fuss of the dealer? For example spray on some brake cleaner etc?

mine squeak as well, and have been squeaking for a very long time. high pressure hosing the brakes pads helps a little but the noise just comes back. I'm upgrading my brakes when i starting tuning my car so putting up with the squeaks for now.

Mine do this too and it's started to annoy me!

It has done it since new and I now have 8k on the clock. Will get them looked at when she is in for the first service.

Glad to know it's not just me with this one.

i too have this only when slowing to a low speed might try look to see if there is a rust build up on the discs or if i can be bothered taking off the rear pads and putting some copper grease there.... not the end of the world though so will probably just live with it!!

be aware that brake squeal is only covered by warranty for an initial period and is classed alongside 'adjustments' unless a part is actually faulty. thats why i stripped mine myself at 7k as i would have had to pay, even working here :(

Putting a high pressure hose in the brakes will make it worse!!

You need to remove the pads and clean the caliper carriers and pad edges and put brake grease on them to essentially stop the oscillations that are causing the squealing!

Brake cleaner and the like will just remove any form of protection you have on them at the moment!

The pads need to come out, you will also need to deglaze the face of the pad.

If you aren't experienced, get someone qualified to do it....life aint worth gambling!!

hey man
i recently had the same problem....it was kinda creaking as well!! i got it checked out and i found that the hub (the bit which attaches to the disc) was "run out"(technical term i think) and therefore causing my pads to be pushed back into the caliper.
167quid to replace the hub including labour

u may have to go to the stealers for it...im trying to get hold of them bcos i had the same problem for 6 months (since ive owned the car).....replaced pretty much everything to do with the braking system before i found my hub had "run out".
i hope this helps and its not the same problem but if it is get it changed asap!! was told it can screw the brake shoes up!!!

Im guessing that you are in a dealership like me - you have to admit that its pretty poor to ask an hours labour to do this. I had a 'heated exchange of opinion' with our service manager and he won :( Got my own back tho - I did it myself on his ramp in his workshop

What would this period be?

I know that for consumer goods like TV's and washing machines, if there are any problems within 30 days then there is protection which is greater than the warranty period.

For example, if a TV is faulty after youve only had it 2 weeks then it should be replaced. After 30days then its a repair.

Im wondering if cars have a comperable thing?

Every manufacturer sets an initial period after which certain things are not covered eg washer jet adjustment, wheel balance and alignment, panel alignment, rattles and squeaks, brake noise . . . . basically anything which could have been affected by outside factors. Im not exactly sure what the SEAT time scale is, will check

Given that ive just bought it from a dealership and they done their million and one point check, will there be any protection from that even if the adjustments warranty has expired as the car is 6 months old?

its all down to money - if warranty wont pay (and they wont as the car is 6 months old) then someone has to. in your case it would up to the dealer to consider paying out of 'goodwill'
unfair but true - we are all bound by SEAT's warranty terms

Ill email them and see what they say, worst they can say its itll be an hour of labour i suppose... or its 3 hours of labour new new brakes! but i dont think im anywhere near that.

I did just have the front alloys repaired and they use a spray praint and lacquer gun, if that went on the disks or pads would that do anything? Im thinking it would rub or burn off quickly.

I would be worried if the guy was spraying your wheels still bolted to the car.

Paint and laquer do rubber no good!! ;-).....BRAKE HOSES!!

If you bought the vehicle recently, I would expect the Dealership to do everything in THEIR power to make you happy regardless of warranty....a good grace period if you will!!

An hours labour (at cost to them to r & R brakes) to keep a customer who has just spent £15k + with us......obvious one to me!!

Let us know your outcome! (speak to the guy who sold you the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Everybody goes to the service reception and name drops, get the guy you bought it off to take responsibility for booking you in etc!! Don't lay off until you are satisifed (within reason lol).

Kind regards

Hi,

I watched the respray guy during the process and he took great care, all the tyre was covered, so too the surrounding paint work. Also the spray was so fine and controlled i could see there was none on the tyre covers which i was amazed at given it was the rim that got respreayed!

I think there is some good will despite me pushing 20% off the sticker price when i bought it, they didnt charge me any labour and took £20 off the replacement tyre after i hit a kerb and took a chunk out the tyre.

Have emailed the sales guy to see what they say. Will keep you guys posted.
