I have the auto dimming mirror, the button underneath switches it on and off.. when its on the green light on the left comes on, but what does the light on the right do / indicate ? or is it just for design? because i have never seen it illuminate etc

so if i cover it with my hand the lights should come on? ill try later...

seems weird how the sensor is pointing inside the car and not detecting the outside light conditions?

If im right (so not 100% sure about this)

The sensor on the inside picks up when light shines on it and dim's the mirror

really usfull if you have someone with full beams on behind you

I meant the sensor for light coming from behind. So that it knows when to dim;)

Ohhhhhhhhh i seeeeeeee , so therefore, if i shine a torch in it i should see it dim ! ;)

its weird how they made the sensor look like it could be a light.. o well i suppose this is all cleared up now :) cheers peeps

The mirror has 2 light sensors.

1 points forwards, 1 points backwards. If you feel up the back of the mirror, you will find the sensor. Cover this and the mirror should dim as there will be more light entering the other sensor (as there would be if you where being followed by someone with their headlights on)

I understand all that. Hope it makes sense.

The rain / light sensor attached to the windscreen has nothing to do with the dimming rear view mirror!!

Craig Senior is c0ck on!! :) - its the two light sensors inside the mirror that dicate if it is dimmed or not! One is on the back (facing the front of the car) and the other is the oblong lens that looks like a light. The control unit inside the mirror is a difference engine!

Ok, but then we have switch to turn it on? The green light turns on i think when the button is pressed on the rearview. i dont understand why the button is required.

Because in certain conditions, like the sun setting behind you...you dont want the mirror to dip!

It works on light differences, if the light behind you is brighter than the light in front it will dip the mirror!

Besides...everyone likes having buttons to press!! ;-)
