Hi everyone,

I`d like a bit of advice. I currently have a civic Type-R 04, had the car for 4 years now and really enjoyed it but i think its time for a change. As ive got a baby on the way im gonna need a 5door and really like the look of the new Leon. Especially with the BTCCkit on.
I do on average around 390miles a wk, mainly motorway and was thinking of going for the desiel, although i`ve read the Cupra can give 34mpg???? i get around 30-33mpg at the min.
The only thing putting me off with the desiel is the power drop but you can also get them re-mapped.
Could anyone give me a few pros and cons on the 140d, 170d (re-mapped) and the Cupra just to try and give me a point in the right direction?

Thanks for reading and im very greatfull for any replies.

34 mpg in a Cupra is some achievement. When mine was run in on a run it would get about 30, maybe 33 if you drove at a constant 50ish mph. Overall average I would say about 27 mpg but if you seriously boot it under 20 is more like it. FR petrol is supposed to be slightly better but only an mpg or two.

I have a 170 PS diesel engine in my TT although it is a different design to the one currently in the Leon FR. Yes it is a power drop but in day to day use amble as on U.K roads you can't really use the full power of the Cupra.

Would need to look at the figures, but an FR diesel is probably quicker than your current Civic, the power is certainly more usable.

Anything over 30mpg in a Cupra would be a fair achievement in my opinion. I managed 34mpg on a motorway run one time though right enough, but have never managed it again since.

Also, if you go for the Cupra, a nice combination is standard Cupra bumpers and the Aero skirts and spoiler.

I have the 140 TDI and going to get it remapped at the end of the month to around 185 bhp. Currently getting around 51mpg with motorway driving. I know there are issues with remapping the 170bhp diesels due to dpf issues.

Search the forum for dpf issues there are loads about.

I have the FR TDI 170, remapped to around 200.

Goes well, no dpf problems (10,000 miles since) touch wood.

Does 45mpg+ with 'normal' driving.

If fuel cost if not going to be a problem go for the cupra, without the silly bttc kit. But with your miles, id say the FR TDI is a good option. Remapped it will be no doubt quicker than the type r.
