I was driving down the motorway this morning doing just under 70mph and took a photo of my mpg :) My car is a 2.0 TDI 140bhp. Can't complain about that.

I have managed to get 68mpg going at lorry speeds over 30 miles. Reckon I can get over 70mpg if I had my curbed my overtaking manoeuvres.

Hi,

Just put 47L into FR170 with 386miles on the trip, this works out as 37.4 which was Asda+millers. Matches very-closley with what the trip says.

Driving is a mix of town, country and motorway. Had about a 200mile run up and down to Fife for work, car had two of us with boot filled full on way down and car filled full on way up. We think mabye 200kg of stuff on the way back!

In town, maby 90miles broken down as, 25% under 20mph, 50% over 30mph, 25% around 40. Lots of roundabouts in aberdeen in the 40 zones so thats hard.

Out of town, 60 miles A country roads, sprited with overtaking, mosty 3rd and 4th acceleration with 4th and 5th static speed.

Climate on Econ all the time other than demisting windows.

Will see what the next tank is like, this was probs a false MPG over my normal driving as it was my first full week with the car so i was having fun and im not normally on the motorway so much.

EDIT: got the miles wrong, had been working from memory but found the fuel receipt.
EDIT again: Just fuelled up with 52L with 410miles, or 36MPG. Like the last tank, and i think the next... ive not been backwards about the right foot. THis tank is nearly all in town with 120miles consisting two 30 mile return trips, one way stop start upto 40mph max, the then moving freely the way back.

Hi,

Just put 47L into FR170 with 350miles on the trip, this works out as 33.9MPG which was Asda+millers. Matches closley with what the trip says.

Keeps me giggling like a school boy!! 2nd wd be fun in traffic and corners if you could put the power down, mabey on a very dry day but ive not had one since i got the car!

Friend of mine doesnt have a car licence but has a bike licence and says it feels like a small-medium bike but im assured this is a compliment to a car which weights at least 5 times as much as a bike!

I filled up last thursday as my trip said 0miles. And it cost £58.00. The trip said 400miles. I used half tank so far and only done 160miles. Why is my car so rubbish on diesel?? I have tried to drive like a normal person so hard. Sometimes i have put foot down but not for long.

Cheers matt

Hi matt,

I put 52.5L when it said 10 miles left, its a 55L tank which is what i guess is what you put in for £58 of fuel.

When full, my car is saying 450-500 miles for a tank.

Half a tank for 160 miles is 360 miles for a full tank which is 40 miles less, or 10% than your 400 miles.

Sitting at 75 as opposed to 70 can use 15% more fuel, 80 can be 25% more! Ive not measured for this car, but as a gernal thing, most cars conform to that.

Air is the killer, i did once make a spread sheet which calculated what proportion of engine power went to wheel resistance, and air resistance. At 70mph, i think my 62HP corsa was putting about 22HP into moving air out the way, 4HP to tyre loss and 3-4HP for ancillarys (alternator etc) and transmission losses. When going up a hill all remaining engine power is used on that, often power is stolen from moving air which means the car slows down...

Wont have that problem with the FR!!

I am over the moon with the MPG out of my TFSI, had it since 21st aug and done just over 7k and I average 34.5mpg which I am dead happy with for a 2.0 T.

My old MK1 Leon Cupra used to be around 28.8mpg

Happy chappie!

Hmm,

34.5mpg with the TFSI 200 (35.8MPG official combined)
37.4mpg with the TDI 170 (47.1MPG official combined)

Kinda insulting the whole idea of Diesels!:cry::cry::cry::cry:

EDIT: Got the number wrong for my mpg

I think you have 2 extremes there, if you read the bigger mpg threads the 2l tfsi seems to average 28ish and the TDI 40ish.

Of course some people have a heavier right foot than others :p
