would be best to get it on vag com - my pre cat sensor went as well and improved my mpg as i was getting the same as you. currently getting about 28/29 so still not right - going to change the maf to see if that makes a difference. only changing maf as i havnt got any errors coming up so trying that first

My car is considerably worse on fuel when its cold.

I put it down to cold starts using a lot more fuel and it taking longer for the car to come off choke and for the engine to get upto correct and efficient operating temp.

My car is healthy with a new Maf and new coolant temp sensor - i have noticed this every winter (or cold period) since i have owned the car- My MPG doesnt quite drop that much though so it sounds like there are other problems afoot.

- Get it on vag-com and do some logs or its just guessing - dont waste your money buying parts that could be fine, £63 is not an amount i would like to flutter away on guesswork.

its normal that a car will use more fuel in the winter period. Like said above, the car is using auto choke until its up to temp, but in the meantime its using more fuel. Plus, not all fuel is getting burnt as well as it would do when on proper temp.

However with the MPG stuff I can't get an accurate idea of what you mean, as I work with liters and km's. However, it looks like yours went down quite a bit which will make me think that something else is up.
I can see my average consumption go up by a bit now that its getting colder, but its only like 5 to 10% max more consumption than in summer.

like said get it on vagcom.
You could try unplugging maf to see if it runs better, however don't know if a buggered maf will really make you run rich.
Temp sensor maybe?

and what does "leaving your car tiking for quite some time" have anything to do with poor fuel consumption?:confused:
