Right, so there's you slagging off the 8v earlier in this thread, yet you've never been in an 8v or 16v Ibiza to be able to tell the difference?

How can you say that my car is (and I quote) "very very slow" when you've never been in one!! It's not all about headline power or 0-60 times.

Here's a new word for you: DRIEVEABILITY. I think you'll find the 8v has it in spades.

Anthony

agreed, There are built out of nothing and saxo's are death traps.

as for the 8v, i still love driving mine, and with its recent new clutch its drives so sweet ! and with its CAT back SS system it really rumbles. I dont drive it fast and neither does my misses. It doesnt need to be to turn heads but i always put my fot down in my 16v as soon as i get a bot of empty road.

Learn to rev the tits off it..... if it's cam'd and you jus got a superchip then that doesn't help in the 1st place. Superchip is designed for the standard engine.

And for the sports cat.... SH!T had one on mine, now I have a dcat pipe and the sports cat is used for MOT's.

Best bet is a ported and polished head and a remap. Mine's 190bhp and I have overtaken scoobies, 200SX's and a 250bhp odd Mk3 Ibiza out on track..... could be down to how the other person is driving the car etc..... but still.

1000000000% agree

I could drive my 8v all day long and not go about 50mph, it drives soooo well and smooth. I know there not all like this buts its the best example i have.

as for my 16v, if another car so much as looks at me in a way i dont like this red mist kind of sets in and .......... i wake up and the car is behind me / and or the police..LOL:p

Wow, I am not slagging no one of, like you said I havent been in an 8v so i cant say its not great to drive, but all im saying is that the whole thred is on about how a punto feels faster than a ibiza, and in the case of 8v, it is faster because the engine isnt very fast, so wen you pull of you wont be getting up to speed very fast.
and not gonna bother argueing with people about mods, cos if you hav the money to do that than the 8v is great, but like the mk3 golf, wen you say to someone you drive a gti and they get into it they might be dissapointed wen you put your foot down and it doesnt feel like your going very fast.

Then please limit your references to the 16v in comparison to a Punto. You can't really discuss the relative merits of the 8v without having any experience of them. I am not going to comment on the Punto, having never sat in one.

so wen you pull of you wont be getting up to speed very fast.

That's the whole plus point of the 8v. The low down grunt *does* get you up to speed fairly quickly.

but like the mk3 golf, wen you say to someone you drive a gti and they get into it they might be dissapointed wen you put your foot down and it doesnt feel like your going very fast.

I believe the mk3 golf is a fair bit heavier than the Ibiza which hampers it in both straight lines and cornering. Incidentally, I bought the GTi for my own enjoyment, not for the purposes of impressing others.

And with respect, it's you who's come into a new forum and started making claims like (and I quote, again) "8v's are very very slow" without anything to back it up other than two statistics which have little relevance to real world driving.

Oh no not another 8v vs 16v debate

Theres not much between both engines, its what you want from it I guess, having being used to a std and then later tuned 16v engine I thought a std 8v would be a load of poo in comparison but to my delight I was wrong and actually quite like it!

I think that Red Mist i was talking about has set in around ALPINEWHITE 's computer [:@][:@] AAARRRRGGGGGHHHH

lol - V Funny

From my own point of view I wouldnt buy a punto but alos have never driven one but they probably mod very well with the turbo.

The ibiza 8v, was great when i was 22/23...Insurance was good and would go up against any Vtr, 106 gti, fessa zetec s ect ect that other chaps had and also looks wise lowered with the coded white bumpbers they couldnt match it for looks and it suits my misses for drivin to work

my 16v, Awesome car, i love it, i have big plans for it and its shown up a lot of cars who underestimated its power....i dont hink you could ever call it slow !

your views ??

Fiats are light fun cars, we've had two, one was great, one was a total dog! I think once you adapt your driving style to the 16v you'll find it compareable to the Punto, provided the mods have been set up properly. If still in doubt get along to a meet with an experienced 16v driver there and let them take you for a run, you'll probably re-consider. I'll never forget Big Phils face when i took him out in the cordy 16v :D

On the 8 VS 16v debate......

I dont believe the 9.4 to 60 time............ its only a few mph a gear off of my old 16v, i would love to get an exact time.

The 16v is great fun and faster than 8v at the top end.... 80mph it just pulls and pulls whereas the 8v tails off, stick a boot on its arse and you have a cordy which feels much more planted than the ibiza and encourages you to use more of the top end. However as a daily for my 40 mile commute the 8v is the winner by miles!

Comon people what is the deal with worshiping ibizas and constantly slateing any other cars like saxo's and 106's? I mean i do like my ibiza loads but if they did such a thing, i would love a 106 2.0 16v as it would have power, not as chavy as a saxo and still weigh **** all! They arn't that bad in crashes either and my old lil 1.4 8v saxo ran sweet and would do 90 in 3rd (only saying that as someone said something about the 2.0 doing that). Was a great 1st car. But then i havnt been in a ibiza gti so cant comment on the 16v vs 8v vs punto debate.

Oh and back onto the 1st post. The 16v cammed, chipped and set up properly should be loads quicker than the punto
