02 toledo problems

My 02 toledo 110 tdi has some minor problems that hopefully someone can help me with.

1)When braking, there is a judder, am i right i saying that it must be warped front discs.

2) the fans (engine bay) are on all the time

3) the front fogs are on all the time

4) water leaks, i have checked pollen filter, sealed drivers side soor which was visibly leaking. will check all doors, anywhere else i need to seal. the drivers seat belt has got damp on it

5) boot wont open, very odd time it does

6) burning smell of engine , oily smell

7) 2nd gear crunch. mainly when cold, changing into second is tough

8) very hard to start in mornings


also have tried a vw gamma radio in car but cant get it to work, lights on radio go on, and power to 6 disc cd, but radio wont go on.


any help appreciated

1) yes sounds like warped discs
2)has your car got aircon as when aircon is switched on fans will run try switching off and see if that makes a difference
3) check light switch
4)check usual suspects
5)boot solenoid sticking new on from seat not to costly
6)poss oil leak
7) change gear oil in gear box first if that makes no difference it could mean sincros worn
8)temp sensor or glow plugs old

I might add that 7) unless very severe is not unusual in colder weather until things have warmed up a little (5 mins or so). I wouldn't exactly say 'crunch', but a little sticky is normal. If anything more than that then yes it needs checking.

bluddy hell mine boot was a stupid plastic cover at base stopped mine popping yep warped disks mine too put decent disks on water leak check out door seal mine loose people rub on it when entering mine starts chuck smoke out if a rev it it floods takes ages to start mite be injectors Ive changed my glow plugs easy job mine grinds on second usually when am pulling off quick

thanks for the answers. when you say CHECK LIGHT SWITCH, which switch.

also where is gearbox oil and how do i change it and also is it a big jobs for sincros, also temp sensor, is that the one in manifold, in engine bay

i have now a new problem which might be why i smelt the oily burning.

the orange oil light has come on, and i checked oil level and it is very low. will have to find out why it is leaking

Might it be worth checking the oil sump aint damaged?

since the last post, i have sealed all 4 doors to stop the water leaks. fixed the boot lock as it was the boot solenoid sticking.

the oil had either burned/leaked out of engine so i have refilled. the leak may have been caused by the fact that i added flush to the old oil, before changing it. it may have upset seals.

the limp mode is back. i got replacement n75 and put it on and returned the n18 (egr one) to its righful place. limp mode most of the time.

so unplugged electrical connector from n18 and reset ecu, by disconnecting battery for 30 mins.

seems to be ok for now!!!!
