paul-murphys

efr 6758 here i come
i have just got back from weston performance where i had my car on dyno for the 1st time.... i will try put graph on here if i can. the guy said he could remap it to 270 for an extra 300... when he had the dyno on the boost was all over the place an he said it will be like that because the remap it has had..... he also said the car is running really lean so he recons with him playing with the ecu he will see 270bhp an said if i carry on driving with it as lean as it is there is a chance i will melt a piston..... has anyone had a melted piston on a seat lcr or is hejust trying to encorage me for it to have its 2nd remap..... also they dyno they had only had one fan blowing on the radiator... would the intercoolers not haaving fans blown on them cause such a drop in power....... cheers for any replies..... do i wait to get the new turbo im saving for or do i just get the remap now an does anyone on here have a problem with there boost bein all over the place...... cheers for any help guys...... also the last map it had was and amd....

Call me a bit cynical, but that does sound like a sales pitch they are feeding you to be honest.

First question you should ask, does it feel like the boost is all over the place when you drive it. It's easy to tell, if it's not boosting properly then it will be surging not a smooth acceleration under boost.

Did they stick a probe in it to determine it was actually running lean, or just his 'expert' opinion?

I would be tempted to get someone with VAGCOM to help you do some on road logging. Things like the boost pressure can be logged, intake air mass etc.

It could be nothing more serious than the usual MAF sensor dead or dying.

If something is genuinely wrong with the car, then simply remapping it with a different product won't make any difference regardless of what this bloke might of said.

i had a dodgy map on my car before i got custom coded. it was running so lean under boost that i was lucky not to crack the manifold or knacker the turbo as it was running HOT!! this was confirmed on vag-com by two different tuners, AMD after a rolling road day and the tuners that supplied the map............ and promptly refunded me afterwards.

Was the map on the car when you got it ???
If your sure it's an AmD map then I'd speek to Shaun at AmD to see if they can take a look at it.

did you say you ordered a forge 007.
what d/v you got on now . if its the factory plastic one that could be split and that would explain your motor not holding boost .

As per DK's thread, get the original mapper to look at it before spending £300 on another map.
He cannot prove to you that he will get 270 BHP. This all depends on the RR and how accurate it is.
The AMD map has been proven to get higher figures than 254 BHP so might just need tweeking to get the best out of it. The DV should be your first port of call. If the mapper didn't suggest this for a start then walk away

Agreed 100%

It seems to me you need

1) Better DV to hold the boost
2) TIP
3) VAGCOM check.

Might be worth adding that 254 on a remap only is pretty good going to be fair.

But I agree DV, TIP etc all worth doing, checking coils, n75 and maf all essential too if your getting erratic boost.

However 270hp is really Stage 2 territory, so up-rated exhaust, downpipe, intercooler then stage 2 software would be required.

All things said and done i think the power is fairly realistic for a Cupra R with just a remap.

You say 270bhp for stage 2 but on rolling roads i have never achieved that. The closest i've got to it is 257bhp and my car has been thoroughly checked out over 3 days and there is nothing wrong with the car.
BHP figures aren't worth a thing, it's how it feels on the road (and what you can beat, lol).
