Ahhh that sounds good. So if I understand correctly, you've just put an extension on the power socket, and made the outlet come out in a more intelligent position, just under the dash in the centre console?
Pics would be good mate if possible?
Hi Rael,
Yep, thats about it, although 'cause it's wired from underneath, you still have your original socket to use for whatever else.
I will try to get some photos of stuff, but pretty much all of it is hidden now
The extension is nothing flash, just a single open socket with an in-lin fuse and a metre of cable, so your Tom Tom plug is still intact (as it needs to be) and pushes right in.
I've got the socket pushed just under the dash above the clutch pedal and the rest of the wire along bottom of dash, then drops behind the kick panel (throttle side, comes across small panel fitting gap and under door rubber, up to top of dash, across the other small fitting gap in the panels and appears next to small quarter window!
My bracket is as low and to the right as is possible and I left around 20cm (8ins) of wire which lies on dash when not in use.
When you pop out the centre panel (fag lighter/socket one) pry from the front (mirror switch end) - one clip each side and the rest will pull gently up. the back is just a locating tab.
Obviously use some cardboard etc. next to you screwdriver when prying, and I found a small leccy screwdriver more effective and gentle.
Also lift gear lever gaiter - again pry gentle all round in stages and then remove drink holder/hazard switch panel (two clips each side towards the front.
I found if you also remove the console side panel (one clip into under dash, further two going towards the back and the rest are just aligning tabs) it makes it easier to 'lay' your extension cable and you can route it under the black sound deadening in order to keep it away from the gear linkage.
There is also a small panel under dash (below headlight switch panel) which is on metal push clips, if you pull this off it makes life so much easier to route your cable through to the door pillar.
Sorry if I've gone into too much detail and I hope you don't think I'm trying to tell you what you may already know, I'm just trying to offer
help if you need it
Tend to go on a bit don't I!!
Hope this helps!!
Cheers,
Ian
