yeah does seem funny that they are now saying the gearbox oil needs changing at 26k.

looks like they are trying to renege on the warranty. personally i would not take lying down. give off to Seat UK.

It needs doing at 40K, I know this from recent conversations with Seat Dealer. They also said it doesn't need to be done before 40K... it doesn't get very hot so doesn't thin etc.

From very recent experience I know its quite a big job though

Took mine in for inspection as was getting strange noises and general lumpyness with the DSG local dealer said I needed to prove the oil had been changed at 40k (The car was serviced at 38K just before I bought it and I had no real way of proving if it had or hadn't)

Long and short of the story is that I was sold car with full service history which it didn't seem to have (everything else was in order but this gearbox oil change hadn't been done)

Dealership I purchased from have today replaced oil and filter and its a completely different driving experience now. Although they did have the car from 8 this morning til 4.

So far no strange noises though so I think the oil change has solved the problem, fingers crossed..

In your situation I would be ensuring the dealer changes it FOC if they think this will solve the problem. If the book says 40K then thats what it should be...

Come on people!!! It's obvious!!! If you want to reverse, you have to press the rewind/back button on the DVD player...

in fairness to us, it was SEAT UK who said to renew the gear oil at the customers' expense. for almost any warranty claim, a DISS report must be made first of all. after that the dealer is under instruction from SEAT warranty technical and wont get paid a penny if unauthorised work is carried out. just worth mentioning . . . .

Just purley for info David, if the oil was changed and the clonking noise was still their, would the customer got his money back and Seat UK own up for its mistake of diagnosis?

unfortunately thats the bit where SEAT leave the dealers stuck in the middle. if it didnt fix the prob, then SEAT are obliged under warranty to carry out repairs as necessary - its down to the individual at warranty giving the instructions which is probably why the other dealer got different advice on what to do. nothing is ever committed to by SEAT warranty, its all very much case by case and as i say the dealer is stuck in the middle.

a lot comes down to goodwill and as far as a dealer is concerned, why offer goodwill where no money has been made previously eg the car was bought elsewhere, or the customer takes it elsewhere for services. at the end of the day we are a business selling time at £60 an hour so every hour spent must be paid for by someone. harsh but true :( i have been a service manager - now you know why i stick to parts ;)
