Well I got the car booked in tomorrow for them to look at it and see whats what. As soon as these beeps and lights come on i tend to have a look over everything just in case. The coolant level hasn't dropped and the levels are clearly marked on the expansion tank and the gauge rises as normal. There is no difference if the car temp when sitting in traffic etc so hopefully its just a sensor. Will let you guys know the results

Just got the car back and they couldn't find anything wrong! No fault codes where logged so under warranty they cant change anything unless a fault is logged on the car.
It was flashing again this morning, on my way to the garage but i had to stop at the shops. When I got back again and started up it had gone.
Give the guys their due at the new Seat garage in Aberdeen, they checked it twice for me, next time it happens i was told to drive straight over their and they will have a look. Good friendly service.
Was told that it is most likely the sender but without the logged fault code they cant do a warranty change on it.

Skidder, did they give you any indication on how serious this was/is and what potential harm it could cause?

They didn't seem to think that it was a major problem. Each time it goes off I check the level of coolant just to be sure that its not emptied itself but apart from that I will have to wait till it happens again and then go in. As long as you have normal running temperatures I assume there wont be any problems. It doesn't stay on, and only happens on really cold mornings - which there are plenty of in Aberdeen.
The guys at the garage gave it a good look over, even filled up my washer tank as that light had come on too so I will have to wait and see.

Mine used to do this occasionally on cold mornings and did it today on a nice warm afternoon (about 8-9degC) on first start. I've put it down to the sensor in teh bottle as all levels are fine and engine temp does not rise above 90. Will try to remember to descale it at the weekend.
My LCR was doing that back end of last year when it was icy, put a midges p#*s of water in the tank even though the level was between the marks and has never happened since (nearly 4 months) Give it a try mate can't do any harm.
temp gauge beep didn't make its self known this morning, but was a little warmer (+3) as opposed to +1 when it did
Will check levels this afternoon as on half day and daylight helps.

My LCR has done this for the last 6 months and coolant level always seems to be OK and car temp gets to 90 and stays there ok.
It comes on when car is cold, even in hotter weather, and goes off if I let the car warm up, turn it off and then back on again. Its pretty annoying really.
Anyway, my car has gone to the dealers today for 40k service and when I asked them to look at it they said it would be £54 to diagnose any problem plus parts
.
I said erm "No Thanks," I will leave it and maybe just replace the sensor myself.
I was quoted £30.59 for a new sensor by the way, dont know if that is a standard price?
Maybe I will add a drop of water to the coolant tank and then give the sensor a clean with WD40.

its happened to mine a couple of times, have just topped up the coolant over the max level and it has sorted it out every time!!
Wez if your car is regularly going above 90 deg i frankly wouldnt drive it at all as you can do more harm which will cost you so much more in the long run. Its highly likely your waterpump has failed or lost most of its impellor and needs sorting asap. What age and mileage is it i know they can go from 3rd year of ownership and after as low as 45k. When you replace it make sure its replaced with a metal impellor version from the likes of GSF as dealers will probably fit the same type of pump that fails.
As for the original post problem - my mums cupra tdi beeps every day for over a year and a half now and she just lives with it as its been in the dealers twice where they have had it overnight to see the problem for themselves but say nothings is wrong. its done 30k and we know nothings wrong with the cooling system so must be a sensor and now ive got time off il try and clean it up if not replace it

I had the same thing with the temp light and beep. Got a bit tempremental as it would do it every so often (usually when my bf was in the car...never when he wasnt!). Anyways after reading on here, i called my local dealer to arrange a service and mentioned the temp gauge.
He said to check the level of coolant, if that was fine then it was probably the metal pronged sensors that sit in the coolant. They are prone to 'limescaling' as a layer of corrosion builds up. As the coolant warms up it breaks up.
He suggested giving them a clean, and if it was still a problem then to bring it in as it prob needed a new bottle thing for £70 odd.
Gave them a scrape down and had no beeps or lights since.

wez - is murray's a dealers?, GSF metal one was fine in my last car, it did 30k in 2 years never a problem so when i do the leon im happy to buy it again. Thats not a bad price at all. Mine was £170 on my last golf but as the mechanic spent another hour getting bits of impellor out the engine out he bumped up the price as basically my impellor was no more.

yeah, as you cant physically remove them. just ran a flat head screwdriver up n down lightly.
figured that if it was fooked and as it isnt under warranty that i didnt really have anything to lose if it did mess up.
As it turned out, its sorted out the problem (for now...fingers crossed!)

Spoke to ao bloke at SEAT, he says thats a common fault.
Told me to check inside the reservoir and just scrub/scrape 2 metal plates inside... For some reason they get corroded and dont detect coolant.
Havent looked inside there lately, but he tells me tahts the quick fix for it

Mine has been doing the warning beep most mornings recently.
Turning the engine off then back on does seem to stop it however.
I checked the coolant level the other day and it was fine, but this morning I checked again before starting the car and the level was right on the minimum line, so my conclusion is that it's just when the coolant is particularly cold that it doesn't quite reach the minimum level, even though there is a sufficient amount in.
I'm going to top up with coolant anyway just to be safe. If the problem persists then I would guess it's the sensor that is scaled up.

£70 for a bottle?
I had my bottle replaced at the last service (sensor is part of the bottle) and it was only about £8 + VAT. As it only took about 5 minutes to fit the new bottle & top up the coolant, there was no labour charge.Not had a single "beep" since
