Ok its Black smoke not White - My Bad

White Smoke - Leon FR 150

All,

Got a remap last week, have just notived that when hammering it at full throttle and under quick response I sometimes get some white smoke in my rear view mirror.

Is this normal for a REVO 190bhp Remap?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Hmm... should be black really... is there a blueish tint to it? If so your turbo could be on its last legs.

white smoke = water. Not good, but I'm sure its not that (too much of a coincidence).

Are you sure it's not just the cold weather? Your car sits at night, gets rained and it collects somewhere in exhaust due to it being hot and the outside being cold, then as water heats up due to heat from the engine being on, warms the exhaust and collected water = steam? See it all the time in the morning on lots of cars

As it is getting colder your getting condensation/water in your exhaust system. When you fire the car up you will get white smoke unless its all gone.

Get it checked out just incase.

If my turbo goes it would go something like this

Me: "Oh no my turbo has gone. I cant live without the car honey!"
Mrs: "oh dear babe, ok well you can't do without your car!"
Me: "Your right I cant. I better ring AmD and get them to sort me out something. I might need a new clutch to..."

Its definately not blue,

I guess maybe it could be water in the exhaust, although I had been driving for at least 10-15 mins when I noticed it.

Any other ideas?

Are there plently of people running REVO 190 maps on standard turbo's with no major issues?

Following a thread I wrote earlier today.

I need to re-state my facts a bit, I got a mate to follow me in his Megane Renaultsport. It must have been exhaust condesation and spray from the road that I was seeing earlier, so there is no white smoke.

From following he informs me that he see's a fair bit of black smoke each time I boot it. So please could soneone confirm the following for me.

1. Its normal to get some black smoke from a remapped leon TDI FR 150 running a REVO stage 1.

2. The best way to try and reduce it is using Millers Diesel Sport 4

And help would be great.

It depends on who mapped it really but most remaps will give some black smoke when accelerating hard, just some maps produce more than others.
Also consider things like fuel, condition of engine, injectors maf air cleaner etc.
if its running well and fuel economy ok when cruising dont worry just enjoy!

Larger and derestricted air intakes and a performance panel filter usually see most of the black smoke off.

I have the same on mine. I never noticed it on my Passat but because of the design of the rear of the Leon the exhaust gases swirl upwards so they are more noticeable.
The extra black smoke can be reduced by replacing the cat with a normal downpipe like piper or miller again less restriction so the gases can flow smoother.

Black smoke is good let's the Chav in his Nova know he's been diesel'd

Ok thanks for the advice.

So It sounds like its farily common and just a bit of fine tuning will help reduce the smoke.

The other thing I noticed since getting the re-map is s slilght whining sound at low revs. No when idling but when I pull away I hear it from about 1200rpm them it goes at about 2000rpm.

Only seems to occur under load, so If I rev it in neutral I dont get it.

Any ideas?

I beg to differ (I have a twin cold air feed). It is the fuel that creates the black smoke when burnt. Deisel is a very dirty fuel hence when you use cleaner fuel you dont get as much black smoke.

When I had mine mapped on r/road, Paul backed off the power a little as he said it smoked too much - so black smoke/soot is either part burnt fuel or soot from the extra power therefore fuel, burnt.
