How can the more tinkered with more sporty looking model be less to insure? I really don't get that. I thought best case scenario would be that it cost the same no? How the heck does that workout otherwise? Also I was just meaning between a plain FR & one with the body kit not necessarily the 550..

I think its because more cupra's and FR's have been crashed than the FR550 and the K1, due to them being on the market longer.
Its crazy - seems to vary between brokers - spoke to a customer whose insurer counted his BTCC kit as 6 different mods - front bumper, rear bumper, skirts, tailgate spoiler, exhaust, wheels. Thats just taking the p**s ![[:@]](/forums/styles/seatcupra/oldforumsmileys/furious.gif "Furious [:@]")
SEAT should have done the kit from the factory and made it a listed model. Thankfully I have a small local enthusiastic broker who I can actually talk to sensibly

Thankfully I have a small local enthusiastic broker who I can actually talk to sensibly when I insured my FR through LV they said any extras fitted by the factory from new where not classed as modifications so I was charged no more for having 18" alloys fitted. They are worth a call as I saved a load against other insurers, I pay £211 fully comp with protected NCB, this was in May when I purchased the car new. ( I am 50 with no acc or convictions with full NCB )
It's because once it has the big bulky plastic Aero kit on it is classed as a Seat Van, therefore is cheaper

Ha! lol... I know your jokin & obviously your not an aero kit fan but in all seriousness. It doesnt much change the width or length of the Leon does it? I was thinking of front back & skirts without the spoiler.
I never noticed in photos anyway but i've yet to see one properly with the kit on in the flesh, or metal or whatever..

I'm up for renewal on my Ref Sport with Aero Kit, same old nonsense of what constitutes modification, Churchill just went from £319 to £670 when I mentioned the factory fitted kit.
Anyway for reference the second best quote I got on Confused.com was LV, I've just checked their Q&As and....

Neither do the K1s. All kits are fitted at the port of entry so technically aren't Factory fitted.

Fair one. Big difference is that the K1 is a recognised factory model therefore not classed as modified. Can of worms is right. In my experience very few drivers tell their insurer of the mods, If an accident happens, most insurance estimators give it a by-ball and agree the figures to replace Aero bumpers, skirts, rims etc Always a risk tho . . . .
It used to be that if an assessor saw a tuning box, the insurance was immediately deemed null and void as performance (hence speed and accident likelihood) was increased. Cosmetic mods shouldnt be penalised the same way. It used to be argued that add-ons etc made a car more likely to be stolen so premiums were raised - not a valid argument now with immobilisers etc
For K1's, SEAT UK import centre (or appointed agent) on behalf of SEAT Spain.
For Aero kit upgrades, anyone the dealer chooses.
If it came in through Newcastle then the bodykit may have been fitted in the bodyshop on the Quayside. There were alot of K1 getting fitted when I passed last year. The bodyshop is under the walkway for the Newcastle/Amsterdam ferry.
The Ref Sport kits may have been fitted at the dealers.
